Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Phumtham Wechayachai has confirmed that a retired Thai military officer held talks with a Chinese man within the Defence Ministry, as captured in a recently surfaced video clip. Amarin TV reported on June 9 that an internal investigation is now underway.

The officer in question retired last September but was a personnel member with the Defence Ministry. A committee, led by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, has been established to investigate the nature and intent of this meeting. If the retired officer is found to have acted improperly, appropriate disciplinary actions are to be enforced.

Phumtham noted uncertainty about whether the retired officer can be held liable given his current status, emphasizing the need to review legal avenues for addressing the situation if it is substantiated and found harmful. He also suggested that preventive measures might be necessary to avert similar incidents in the future.

In parallel, Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa provided an update on the Thai-Cambodian border situation, indicating that conditions are improving. He assured that the scheduled Joint Boundary Committee (JBC) meeting on June 14 will proceed as planned.

He emphasized the importance of maintaining good diplomatic relations during times of tension and misunderstanding, highlighting the government's preference for dialogue over confrontation. The JBC meeting is expected to address various ongoing issues, and Maris has noted the positive atmosphere surrounding current negotiations.

Furthermore, Maris mentioned that it is unnecessary to describe recent troop movements along the border as a "retreat." Instead, further discussions will be held to clarify these dynamics, as both countries work towards a peaceful resolution of their border issues.

To be fair, there IS an engine on offer.

That engine happens to be a legitimate submarine propulsion system produced in China under license from the German corporation.

But as the German corporation falls under EU law, they are not permitted to provide German manufactured engines for installation on Chinese boats, which they could not anyway, as they have been out of production in Germany for nearly five years.

The Chinese authorized manufacturer is still producing the same engine, with some minor improvements, under a Chinese label.
