Must be the Grand Solaire on Thappraya Road. Crazy to build these monster condos, 67 stories and 2,500 rooms. Imagine what the traffic will be like when it's finished.

Eventually Pattaya will turn into a ghost town.

Personally I find it a little sad that they now allow the seemingly ever increasing height of condo blocks here. Just look how it dwarfs every other building around it.

Did there not used to be some rule that you could not go over 8 stories many years ago?

Yeah, it might spoil that stunning natural beauty spot that is Pattaya.

I have no confidence in any tall structures in Thailand. I don't trust the quality of the foundations.

Why?   What evidence do you have that suggests that the foundations of tall construction projects are lacking?

No, there was no general rule such as that limiting all constructions.

I'm pretty sure there is.  Probably the same in Pattaya as in Bangkok. The soi the building is on has to be a certain width or wider now if the building is going to be over 8 floors. Has to due with fire truck access and ladder heights in case of a fire. Small sois can't accommodate.

I suspect it would be reasonable to assume this could be another AirBNB job used more as a hotel

Without evidence, what would be "reasonable" about that bizarre assumption?

The fact that its a very reasonable assumption given that this is already a well reported issue...

What IS actually quite bizarre is you actually thinking the suggestion that condos in Pattaya being used as an Air-BnB is 'bizarre'.....

True, it's just an assumption but certainly not a 'bizarre' one.   It's a mega project with an abundance of very small hotel-size condo units.  Some of the units are only 20 sqm, with no balcony.   We've seen in the past that a number of new mega projects in Pattaya, also with an abundance of small hotel-size condo units, did, indeed, become plagued by illegal daily renters.

I, personally, lived in several of these new projects and owned a rental unit in a third mega project, which had the same problem.   In my opinion, it's more 'reasonable' than 'bizarre' to assume that this could become a problem with this new project, as well.

If only I had a list of fallen cranes in Thailand.

That would be a long one.

At least no deaths this time.

I was thinking that only yesterday, a lot of accidents involving cranes, also minibuses, coaches and helicopters.

It was  5 stories limit if you were within 200 metres of the beach.

Several tall  beach condos found a way around  that rule .Not sure if it still applies.

Wait til they finish the 2 monsters going in on 2nd Road in Jomtien.  Copacabana 2 and another 50+ story one near immigration.  Its all over for Jomtien.
