There is a cute little gecko that must have been in my apartment now for at least a few weeks.

Ocasionally I see it on the kitchen counter, but then it scurries into corners .... out of sight.

They are fast. So how to catch it without harming it?

I just want to let it loose outside.

They are harmless, right? It won't crawl into my ear at night and eat my brains?

Depends upon the size. We get some pretty big ones here over a foot long including tail. We had a large one that used to come out on one of our wooden house supports to eat the insects at night. I had the bright idea of trying to catch it. I went round the back of it and managed to grab it around the neck. Took it up to show the wife the prize but it just went limp.

I put it down on the floor and the bugger was just playing dead, it was up and off like lightening into our wardrobe. Luckily / unluckily it didn't completely manage to hide itself so I made a grab for it to let it go outside - The damn thing turned on me like lightening and bit me on the thumb. Whilst not exactly a terrible pain, there was a lot of blood, and trying to get it to let go was a monumental task trying to prise its jaws open. Tough little buggers, great for getting shot of insects, only downside is the bloody racket they make in the middle of the night.

I use a long extended handled broom. I sweep them off the wall and quickly sweep them into a dust pan. You have to vigorously shake the dustpan as you run to the door and toss them outside. If you don't shake it hard enough, they will scurry right out.

Just leave it alone, and any tokays living in your house. They are beneficial. They eat insects, like mosquitoes.

Not sure if the above means you have very big ears or very small brains. Brains as in more than 1?

They are harmless.

No need to get them outside; feeding on bugs in your room and they are self-sufficient.

Also able to go out when they want; through the narrow gaps in various part of the building.

I prefer 100 times the useful geckos, rather then those deadly snakes that seem to be all over now. Laugh if you wish but in many parts of the world not known to be snake infested, snakes are showing up here and there. There are discreet campaigns in many European cities informing on the number of people who die from snake bites all over. Climate change mabe who knows ?

Don't grab it by the  tail it will come off in your hand, I've got plenty in my house, they dont bother me, haven't seen many lately since I sprayed thousands of termites buzzing around an outside light might have killed a few

I wonder if it's popping in and out.

Because sometimes I don't see it for days on end and then it reappears.

Her nickname’s a no-brainer nod to the grasshopper.

The grey one you will rarely see. Well they are in more colors. They are mostly in wooden areas where they hide in holes. IN the evening they become active and hunt. They have a special distinguished sound.

Thai are afraid of them and parents use it in stories for children.

Like if you dont go to sleep now the Tookay will come and get your liver. Wife probably also heard that story, as she told me.

You can see on youtube about the animals and the story. Even my wife is still afraid of it.

Heard them in Songkhla, hotel "Pine" close to the beach, but never saw.

In wife's house there are the little one's and I dont care, they will eat other insects.

Mind a Baygon as it is poison, you ll get it on your fingers or what and it will get into your body, same as inhaling the stuf. Any spray is poison.

Since this year a cat came into our lives, it was somehow hidden under the hood of the car.

Had to flush the cat out with water, as it was on a not reachable place. Besides no gloves. The only option to get it was with water, as most cats dont like water and she was not an exception.

So now she decides to limit the gecko's and is hunting on them. She is very young but knows the drill.

Almost everything crawling around house will get her attention and hunted. Even eat it !

Dont know what she is going to do with the big red centipede (about 20 cm long), red they can really bite. and are venomous.

We had them 3 times this year. The first one I caught under a plastic bowl, damn that animal really gets pissed and was happy to keep it under bowl and kicked it out. The other 2 were caught by my wife, who is not afraid to clear any animal. However the tookay? I wonder.

Hate it when it rains and flying ants come in, by the dozens. The cat is enjoying her self then again.

Ants like 1-1.5 cm long, big ones.

So what we have more? Last year a Malaysian pitviper, not happy to meet it. My bushmower hit it, flew a meter high through the air, still alive and instantly tried to attack when landing. Phew, happy the mower hit it first.

This year we had 3 types of green snakes, checked them out, but not that harmful, just let them be.

Better out then inside.

Beard lizards I dont care, they are outside, funny animals and fast, which the dog doesnt like and try to kill them.

Pic of when she enjoys sunbathing in the morning. Such a good dog ! Probably kicked out from motorbike or whatever when younger and came walking up to my wife"s house. She took her in.

image.png.c95e99b035d5def616c5fa45a3d219d7.png

So now and then squirls and rarely monkeys as well. Wife angry as they destroyed her little growing durian tree.

Most really annoying are the black mosquitoes, the bitches love me. I cant be outside on the most loving time, dimmer.  They find me in jiffy time and ill have allergic spots like 5 baht big, which really really itch.

Another annoying thing is the tick, they dont seem to like me or humans at all, but the dog, we have to check her almost every day. The cat not yet, that will be an adventure, as she has long fluffy hair, maybe changes when getting older. A cat is quite different then a dog. Wife was also asking about bathing her, mmmm.

Not yet happened, but wish her succes. I recommended her to start getting to know as she is young now.

However it is a cat.

Sorry I used your comment to make the story, The pic was there of the tookay.

You can spray the gaps with WD 40, it keeps them away. And spray around windows and doors.
