No, that's probably BS.

They don't eat brown rice in Asia.

Only westerners eat it because they health gurus told them it was healthier than white rice.

But I think it's very difficult for the body to digest brown rice.

That's total nonsense of course. The usual British ignorance when it comes to cooking.

Indian spices like turmeric, coriander, cumin, and cardamom have become integral to Thai dishes.

Where do you get this rubbish from ???  talking of ignorance.....

Cumin and Cardamon are hardly in any Thai dishes.

- Kaeng Massaman (Massaman Curry) and Kaeng Kari (Thai Yellow Curry)....

Regional influences - yes, like all foods..

Lol, you may want to look up the list of ingredients for Khao Soi you mentioned earlier.

"The base of the broth is made from a blend of spices, including cumin, turmeric, and coriander, which gives the dish its yellow color."

https://www.thaicookingkohtao.com/ingredient/cumin-seeds

Literally all the Indian spices

Also check the list of ingredients for Panaeng  Curry. Also  includes cumin.

Massaman too of course.

Clueless indeed.

Brown rice versus white rice: A head-to-head comparison

November 8, 2024

"Brown rice and white rice can both be part of a healthy diet. But because brown rice retains the bran and germ, it's more nutrient-dense than white rice. For example, brown rice delivers more fiber, magnesium, potassium, iron, and certain B vitamins (B1, B3, B6, and B9) than white rice. [emphasis added]

...

But if you're otherwise healthy, a diet rich in fiber-filled whole grains — including brown rice — is linked with a number of health perks, including reduced risk of heart disease and type 2 diabetes, and weight management. [emphasis added]

White rice has a high glycemic index, in the range of 73 ± 4. Brown rice is categorized as a medium glycemic index food, with a GI of 68 ± 4. Eating white rice is also linked to a higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes, while eating brown rice is linked to a lower risk." [emphasis added]

Ok, I will.

You will need to read the article yourself ... I will just highlight one main point. Only Westerners eat brown rice because they have been influenced by so called nutritional experts. All other indigenous cultures like SEA cultures only ever ate white rice.

And of course Western doctors always view themselves as superior ... but in this case they likely ain't.

So why, if energy and time were at such a premium, did all of these cultures go to the effort of taking the bran and germ off of the rice?

,cruxiform veges like brocolli and cauliflower are on the FODMAP lists to avoid fwiw , along with all legumes

I eat plain cooked broccoli here regularly as well as various preparations of lentils... No intestinal problems from that for me.

Obviously, if they were creating any digestive problems for me, I'd be adjusting for that.

"FODMAP stands for Fermentable Oligosaccharides, Disaccharides, Monosaccharides, and Polyols. These are types of short-chain carbohydrates (sugars) that are poorly absorbed in the small intestine and can cause digestive issues for some individuals, particularly those with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)."

PS - Chubby, how were you handling getting U.S. Costco food products ordered and shipped here to Thailand?

AI response:

"Yes, brown rice is eaten by people in many parts of the world, including outside of what is traditionally considered the "West." While white rice is often the more common staple in many Asian countries, brown rice is also consumed, sometimes for its perceived health benefits or as part of specific cultural or regional cuisines.

Here's a more detailed look:

Asia:

Brown rice is consumed in various Asian countries, including Korea, Thailand, and Taiwan, though white rice often remains the dominant staple. In some cases, brown rice, along with other colored rices like black and purple, are considered fashionable and healthy.

India:

In regions like Kerala, red rice (which is partially husked) is consumed, showcasing a preference for whole grain rice. ...

In Thailand, from  personal experience, there are many colors of rice used and eaten other than white, with purple riceberry being a popular choice, along with red and black rice varieties -- all of those like brown, considered a healthier option to white.

When it comes to the science and health aspects of nutrition, I think I'll listen to Harvard Univ. Health over....

Yes, Harvard.

Now we are entering the realm of cuckooland conspiracy theories ....

Does the mainstream give out dodgy nutritional advice because they want people sick to increase profits?

Tough discussion. And I'm tired.

Also pineapple fried rice - also has Indian spices.

What you didn't know: The wok appeared in Thailand before it appeared in China. Why? Because it was an Indian invention that was adapted by the Thais and Chinese.
