On June 19, police arrested a Thai man in Bangkok's Lat Phrao area for sharing videos that showed him desecrating the Thai national flag and a portrait of King Rama X. The man, identified as Somkiat, posted videos on Facebook using the flag as a doormat, placing his foot on the royal portrait, and urinating on both. He also used vulgar language to criticise the royal family, inviting those offended to confront him directly.

The incident attracted significant public attention after Thai artist Wannawat "Bomb" Hanrungruengkit condemned Somkiat's actions on his Facebook page, raising awareness among his followers.

Bomb, accompanied by several friends, visited Somkiat's residence around 7 PM, where a heated exchange occurred, streamed live on Facebook. Bomb rebuked Somkiat, urging him to leave Thailand if he could not respect its symbols.

During the confrontation, which drew neighbours outside, Bomb used strong language and criticised Somkiat's mother for not controlling her son's behaviour. The situation escalated until officers from Chokchai Police Station arrived and arrested Somkiat.

Authorities have not yet detailed the charges Somkiat may face, but his actions could fall under Section 54 of the Flag Act, which involves disrespect towards the national flag and is punishable by up to six months in prison or a fine. Additionally, his comments about the royal family may violate Section 112 of the Criminal Law, known as lese majeste.

Reports suggest Somkiat may be dealing with mental health issues, potentially influencing his behaviour.

Bomb is notable for his transformation from a life of drug use and imprisonment to becoming a respected artist, known for drawing portraits of the royal family and sharing them on social media.

The police investigation continues as authorities consider the legal implications of Somkiat's actions.
