They would have to pay labourers to harvest the fruit... who is going to see this saving the farmers? Are the soldiers and prisoners going to receive the pay or will some army general and prison governor pocket it? These ideas are great but constantly opening the doors for corruption possibilities. Get all these problems sorted before making these announcements

A friend of ours in Chanthaburi was offered only 7 baht a kilo for her mangosteens.  So she has decided to process the skins.  I think the dried skins are used to make some kind of tea.  Not sure what she intends to do with the pulp.  Maybe they could be used in flavoring ice cream or sherbet.

With military personnel and select prisoners stepping in to fill the labor gap

What a laugh! Thailand has shot itself in the foot again - no more cheap Cambodian labour. The Thai fruit farmers must be rubbing their hands with glee by not having to pay cheap wages The soldiers will get their normal military pay and the prisoners f.. all!

Cambodian workers who have returned home are being offered jobs. Reference -

Joint teams from the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training (MLVT) and the National Employment Agency (NEA) are offering a detailed briefing on local job opportunities across various provinces to citizens returning from Thailand.

The initiative aims to support the citizens returning from the neighbouring country (Thailand) in terms of finding new opportunities and earning consistent incomes to support their families.

Good practical idea of utilizing unused workforce.

But without transparency, can well end up as the new form of slave labor.
