"Branded and Broken: Ukrainian POW Recounts Unimaginable Russian Torture"

Ukrainian soldier Andriy Pereverzev has come forward with a harrowing account of the brutal torture he endured while held as a prisoner of war by Russian forces, including being branded with the phrase “Glory to Russia” and subjected to repeated electric shocks. His story, told in a recent interview with United24, offers a chilling glimpse into the suffering inflicted on captured Ukrainian troops.

Captured in February of last year after being seriously wounded on the battlefield, Pereverzev said he begged Russian troops to kill him rather than take him prisoner. “While they were carrying me, I kept asking them, ‘Finish me off. Just end it,’” he recalled, describing the moment he realized the fate that awaited him in captivity.

Once in Russian custody, Pereverzev said his captors used a metal cautery tool to sear the phrase “Glory to Russia” into his right side, leaving a jagged scar he now bears as a permanent reminder. Disoriented and weakened from the ordeal, he said he didn’t fully comprehend what had been done to him until two Russian guards changed his dressings. “I was gasping,” he said.

The branding was only the beginning. Pereverzev described a particularly cruel method of torture known as “Calling Putin,” in which an old rotary phone is transformed into a device for delivering severe electric shocks. “Then they crank the phone handle, lift the receiver, and there is this old Soviet-style rotary dial on it … the higher the number you dial from 0 to 9, the stronger the electric current,” he explained. “And with each number, the power increases a lot.”

The beatings and electric shocks continued relentlessly. Pereverzev said his open wounds were targeted with electrical torture multiple times, pushing him to the brink of consciousness. “They used electric shocks on my open wounds a couple of times, and I started blacking out again,” he said. “Three hits to the head with a filled five-liter plastic bottle. My hands were tied, my eyes were covered.”

The cruelty wasn’t limited to physical abuse. Pereverzev and other prisoners were also subjected to forced indoctrination. “The guards came in and asked us to recite the Russian national anthem … those who didn’t know it were beaten until they couldn’t get up,” he said.

When he was finally returned to Ukraine earlier this year, Pereverzev was 35 pounds lighter and barely recognizable. The reunion with his 9-year-old daughter was bittersweet. “She didn’t recognize me, but I recognized her right away,” he said. “I promised her then that no matter what condition I’d be in. Even without arms, without legs, I’d still come back.”

His survival is a testament to human endurance, but the scars—both physical and psychological—are indelible.

What about the cruelties of the Ukranians? Western media are not allowed to discuss this.

I condemn torture from all parties, it's mostly out of hatred. If you want someone to tell secret information, there are more 'humane' ways to do it.

Shameful comment, only one country to Blame..... X

Then provide a credible source to dispute it.

Who cares, it's just a bunch of Russians of different varieties. As long as they are  killing each other life is cool

You suggested that there is an equivalence in the behaviour of Ukrainian troops. I have seen nothing of the sort of horrors meted out by the Russians, hence my perfectly reasonable question.

Ok, granted.

So, as usual, you have nothing to offer except the appearance of a thoroughly unpleasant person. What a sad way to live your life.

Im happy, sorry you arent. It must be tough for you to be a Russia lover
