A man wanted for the high-profile assassination of a well-known local figure in Phatthalung Province has been captured after more than a year on the run. Police arrested 35-year-old Teerapong, known by the alias “Boy,” during a dawn raid in a rubber plantation in Rattaphum subdistrict, Khuan Niang District, Songkhla Province.

The suspect had been evading capture since being implicated in the fatal shooting of Prasan, also known as “White Bear,” a 54-year-old influential figure in Pa Bon District, Phatthalung. The murder took place on 25 February 2024 while the victim was operating a tractor on his property.

Officers from Provincial Police Region 9, the Anti-Influence and Contract Killer Suppression Centre, the Crime Suppression Division’s Unit 6 and local investigators from Khuan Niang Police Station coordinated the successful operation. Acting on intelligence that Teerapong had been hiding in a makeshift shelter deep in a rubber plantation, police surrounded the area and moved in after spotting the suspect with a gas-powered rifle propped against a termite mound.

During the arrest, officers discovered 1.5 grams of crystal methamphetamine in three packets, four methamphetamine tablets and 11 rounds of live ammunition. The items were concealed in a box and beneath his bedding. A urine test confirmed the presence of illegal substances in his system.

Teerapong, who was on the Royal Thai Police’s national wanted list (No. 206) with a bounty of 100,000 baht, was charged under an existing warrant issued by the Criminal Court on 24 May 2024. Charges include murder, attempted murder, illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, unlawful carrying of firearms in public, conspiracy and theft.

Following his arrest, additional charges were laid for possession and consumption of Category 1 narcotics (methamphetamine and crystal meth), and for unauthorised possession and carrying of firearms.

Authorities believe Teerapong was part of a larger criminal network. In May 2024, six other suspects, allegedly including local politicians and a senior police officer, were arrested in connection with the murder during coordinated raids across Songkhla and Phatthalung.

The suspect is now in custody at Khuan Niang Police Station as investigations continue into his criminal network and potential links to further illicit activities, including drug trafficking in the region.
