A dramatic incident unfolded late morning on 10 July, in central Bangkok when a man claiming to be a member of a special forces unit seized a police officer’s firearm and discharged it, injuring two officers at a condominium complex on Ratchada Soi 16 in Din Daeng district.

At approximately 11:00, officers from Sutthisan Police Station responded to reports of a man behaving erratically in a garden area within the condo premises. Upon arrival, officers encountered a 26-year-old man, later identified as Mr. Jirasak, who claimed he was affiliated with an elite military unit. Officers noted that he appeared intoxicated and attempted to calmly escort him to the local police station for questioning.

During the interaction, the suspect suddenly lunged at one of the patrol officers and managed to grab his firearm. In the ensuing struggle, two shots were fired. One bullet struck the officer’s protective vest near the left chest, while another grazed the upper left arm of a fellow officer.

The injured officers, Police Lance Corporal Waradon Thirathanaboon and Police Lance Corporal Jirayut Racha-art, both of Sutthisan Police Station, were quickly transported to Police General Hospital. Fortunately, neither suffered life-threatening injuries.

Following the gunfire, reinforcements were called in, and the suspect was subdued and taken into custody without further incident. He is now being questioned at Sutthisan Police Station as investigations continue.

Authorities are working to determine the mental state and motive of the suspect, as well as whether he has any verifiable connection to any official military unit.

Very careless.........

He was obviously either mentally sick or too drunk. The police understood the situation and handled it in a humane & exemplary manner without shooting him to death. And the policeman who had his gun snatched so easily by keeping it visible & easily accesible must be reprimanded.
