This conflict with Cambodia is stressing me out.

Most people probably can't tolerate themselves or tolerate being alone for 5 minutes.

Going "within" is a very Eastern thing. Westerners are mostly YANG .... need to be active constantly.

Hence the constant need for distractions.

Ah, so glad you have clarified your criteria.

Only me & you online at the moment.

I used to have and read hundreds of books.

Then dumped them all when I moved abroad.

Feel like opening a used bookstore in Thailand.

Love being surrounded by books.

Some days Thailand is very boring but that's ego not anything else.

Eckhart Tolle's teachings often discuss the concept of the ego and its relationship with boredom. According to Tolle, boredom is a product of the ego's need for stimulation and its resistance to the present moment. He suggests that when we are not engaged with external stimuli, the ego may create a sense of boredom as it seeks to maintain its identity through thoughts and emotions.

Tolle emphasizes that true presence involves being fully engaged with the current moment, rather than seeking entertainment or distraction. He encourages individuals to turn their attention inward, focusing on the inner body and the energy within, which can help cultivate a sense of presence and reduce the feeling of boredom.

In Tolle's view, the ego is driven by a sense of lack and a desire for more, which can lead to restlessness and boredom. By observing the ego's patterns and not identifying with them, one can transcend the need for constant stimulation and find peace in the present moment.

Tolle also suggests that boredom can be a valuable opportunity for spiritual growth, as it can push individuals to look beyond their usual distractions and connect with a deeper sense of being.

Eckhart Tolle often explores the ego’s subtle mechanisms, particularly its relationship with boredom. In his view, boredom arises not from a lack of activity, but from the ego’s persistent craving for stimulation and its resistance to simply being. When external distractions fade, the ego—anchored in thought and identification—manufactures boredom to sustain its narrative and sense of self.

Tolle emphasizes that true presence means fully inhabiting the moment without seeking escape through entertainment or diversion. He invites us to direct our awareness inward—toward the inner body and the subtle energy within—as a path to dissolve boredom and awaken presence.

From this perspective, the ego thrives on perceived lack and an insatiable desire for “more.” This restless momentum fuels unease and discontent. Yet by observing the ego’s habits without attaching to them, one can step beyond its grip and experience the stillness of now.

Importantly, Tolle reframes boredom as a portal: a chance to move past conditioned reactivity and encounter deeper states of being. In surrendering to the simplicity of the present, spiritual growth becomes not just possible—but inevitable.

You are more haemorrhoid than Sigmund Freud (apologies in advance if the spelling is off).

Please, don't insult Mr Freud.

Sigmund Freud's personal happiness is a topic that has been discussed in various contexts. According to some accounts, Freud experienced a limited amount of happiness throughout his life. He once mentioned that over a fourteen-month period, he had experienced only three or four days of happiness. His view of life was often described as dark, ominous, and full of despair, with frequent feelings of hopelessness and helplessness. Freud also expressed a pessimistic view of happiness,

Tolle argues that excess thought leads to unhappiness. Why Freud was miserable. Tolle says focus on the present and stop thinking so much.

Freud revolutionized psychology.

Thank God he was miserable. It pushed him harder.

Comfort = numbness and stagnation

Do not become .... comfortably numb

Id rather be happy. Too old for the Olympics.

It doesnt exist.

I already mentioned in a previous post.

Happiness is so vague as to barely mean anything.

It doesn't exist.

It's the scam of the century whoever told you that you will be "happy" one day.

Content is a better word.

Being content with most parts of your life most of the time is more reasonable.

But still, human beings need to strive for something or boredom and apathy quickly set in.

Overcoming obstacles, ...

You can't just sit around doing nothing and expect to be "happy". That's stupid.

Harrisfan was ranting about how Isaan is boring. And all of a sudden boredom is a psychological issue because Ekhart Tolle says so?

Watch out for these sophisticated fake gurus and their bs. It will poison your mind.

Just use common sense.

Ego and boredom have  nothing to do with each other.

Boredom is normal and natural and the way to alleviate it is to do things.

If you're bored, play a sport, go see a movie, get a hobby. Common sense is all you need. You don't need this Eckhart Tolle garbage.

The word doesn't mean anything and we need to stop using it.

Let alone strive for something that's so vague as to barely mean anything.

It doesn't exist.

Unhappiness does not exist either outside the body. All emotions are self created illusions but these illusions affect our physical body which is proven by science. That's the point. We create them through our messages to the mind. Depression is self created just like happiness. Just illusions that become habits if practiced a lot. A movie does not make anyone happy. It's the message you sent to the mind 2000 times. So if you can create illusions thru self dialogue you can be happy in many situations.
