Two construction workers have died after being electrocuted while working on a flood barrier in front of a temple in Pathum Thani province, north of Bangkok.

The incident occurred on the morning of 21 July at a construction site in front of Wat Talad Tai, Moo 3, Bang Kadi subdistrict, Mueang district. Police from Pak Khlong Rangsit station received an emergency call reporting that two workers had suffered electric shocks and were in critical condition.

Rescue volunteers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation, along with emergency medical teams from Pathum Thani Hospital and Krung Siam St. Carlos Hospital, were immediately dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, authorities found two male workers unconscious. Rescuers attempted CPR on both men. One of the workers, aged 42 and soaking wet, was pronounced dead at the scene. The second worker, aged 20, was rushed to Pathum Thani Hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly afterwards.

According to family members and co-workers, both men were Myanmar nationals employed as part of a flood barrier construction project commissioned by the Pathum Thani Provincial Administrative Organisation. At the time of the incident, the pair had been fixing rebar and using a grinder when witnesses reportedly heard what sounded like a splash followed by shouting.

Rushing to the scene, workers found one man in the water and the other on a concrete ledge. Both were pulled to safety, and emergency services were called immediately. Unfortunately, despite efforts to resuscitate them, both men could not be saved.

Initial police investigations revealed that an electrical cable had been run approximately 30 metres from a power distribution box to the site of the incident and is believed to have been pulled into the water by the worker. Authorities contacted the Provincial Electricity Authority to inspect the electrical systems and to also cut off power to the site for safety. Police also documented the scene for evidence and have notified the Institute of Forensic Medicine at the Ministry of Justice to conduct autopsies on both victims.

Police are now preparing to question the employer and project contractor to determine the cause of the incident, as the investigation continues.
