Turkey, where they are slowly  wearing out their welcome. Too many drunken brawls.

Egypt, where they their personal safety is at risk, whether it be from shark attacks, to bus crashes, to terrorist attacks or armed robberies.

China, is fine for a short visit, but it does not offer clean air, warm sand, an ocean  and easy sex.

UAE, is for the wealthier Russians and out of reach for demographic who  go to Thailand.

This is hilarious.  What nationality comes to mind when one thinks of drunken brawls and sex tourism?  What do Pattaya, Benidorm and Ibiza have in common? What nationality consistently causes problems in those resorts, and at football matches all over Europe?  Even the propagandised won't answer 'Russians'.

Russians don't touch Thai women.  Russian women put out. It's Western tourists and Indians who are driven by thirst into Thailand's fleshpots.

Many posters talk about draft dodging as though it's a bad thing. Did it ever cross anyone's mind that these young men don't want to murder innocent people? That they find the 'war' abhorrent and have nothing against people who look like them and speak the same language? This old mindset of equating not picking up a rifle to cowardice is outdated. It serves nobody except those that give the orders and reap the profits. What if everyone followed their conscience and refused, all at the same time?

Understood, but what visa are they using to stay in Thailand?

Most of them in Phuket as far as I have seen are well off so they would buy a visa by investing or buying one directly the same as any other nationality can do.

I see them on a daily basis walking around the reservoir as I do, they are with wives, girlfriends and their children, they seem OK to me, clean cut.

But I laugh when people say Phuket is overrun with them, we farangs as we walk around the reservoir still only make up 2% of all people walking, the other 98% are Thais.

Maybe the Russians are good at disguises and there are no Thais on the walk at all. 😀

I was on a flight to Germany once, part of my twice weekly flight to work and back from London, I was talking to a guy from Spain.

After thirty minutes of chatting he asked where I was from, I said England and he asked why I was polite, had no tattoos and did not swear every other word. I asked him why and he said he was from Spain.

I told him I and others like me avoid going to Spain as it attract only arse-ole Brits is seems, he seemed to think we were all like that.

What if the reality is most poor Russians can not afford to escape long term, only the rich can afford to hide in Thailand for example with their families.

I don't think the ability to be able to afford to hide abroad is called 'refusing'.

I do not blame them for going abroad instead of fighting though.

Nor did I call it that, just posed a question.

What rich kids fight in any wars? They just get deferments or posted to the National Guard l, or a medical exemption (didn't some American have bone spurs?).  The ones who do 'serve' do so far from enemy lines.  The fact that men with resources are being drafted might indicate that Russia is more egalitarian than Western nations.

There's a price to pay for saying 'no' to some government mandates, but at least that person can look at themself in the mirror and know that they stayed true to their own beliefs.

The reason many people demonstrate about freedom, anti war, the environment in the West is easy as there are no consequences, so the opportunity to look at themselves in the mirror is easy.

I bet a Russian with a wife and children do not demonstrate as they will be dead alongside his family.

The UK only produces 1% of CO2, yet lots of people demonstrate about how bad that is in the UK, they try and block airports and motorways etc.

I laugh as they should be demonstrating against China in China as they are opening one electric generating coal power station per week and have been doing so for years.

Why don't they do it, well it would take a lot more guts to do it there than in the soft West.

Are you familiar with this essay? It's brief, and to the point. I suspect the author was someone other than who is given credit for it.

My response was in respect to alternative destinations for Russians, and why Thailand is so important to the Russian tourism market. They have very few alternative destinations where they can go or where they are welcome. This isn't about the English. The world is still open to the English and they are still welcome everywhere, unlike the Russians. Yes, the troublesome demographic is found in Benidorm, but the English who go to Australia, Canada, Barbados, Florida etc., are usually well behaved and very welcome visitors. I was in Amsterdam a couple weeks ago, and there were no English rampaging about. (The heat- it was hotter than in Hua Hin- probably wilted the delicate pasty white people.) The Russian football hooligans are as bad as the English, the difference though is that the Russians are not allowed into the other countries.

The problems of Russians in Turkey is well documented.

I doubt anyone is  buying into your virtuous Russian, and Russian won't touch Thais  propaganda. What's next? The heroic Russians who support Thailand's charities and social service agencies? It is the  Western community, especially the  English, Australians  and the Scandinavians who are the pillars of the  social service charities. Without their contributions of volunteering and money, the charities would collapse. The Russians do nothing and contribute nothing.  The Russians stick with other Russians, and much of it is to do with their poor foreign language skills, and suspicion of other cultures.

Russian conscripts from ethnic "white" Russian territories are not being sent to Ukraine. Moscow, St. Petersburg et al has avoided the heartbreak of death and mangled bodies that the outer Russian territories have experienced. It is the Russians from  Siberia, the Tatars, the Chechens, the Central Asians and the eastern rural Russians who are sent to Ukraine. They are the poor, the uneducated and the marginalized who  occupy the lower socio economic tier of Russia. These are the people who die in the coal mines, who die of chronic disease at age 55, who drink and smoke heavily. The well fed, prosperous Russians of the big cities are relatively untouched by the reality of the war.

WE dont want them anymore

I read it, it is a bit simplistic and interwoven.

But it is about voluntary servitude, are prisoners in a jail in such a state?

Is a Russian with the threat of death to him and his family in such a state of voluntary servitude.

I don't think so, it is easy to write such things but to do what he suggests is another thing eg rebel against it.

You stated your location is khon kaen, I doubt if they want to go to the poorer parts of Thailand, Phuket and the other rich areas will suit their lifestyle better.

There are some very exclusive shops in the Central Shopping centre near Kathu, Phuket, staff on the door only let two or three customers into the shops at a time, when I pass the long queue as I walk past most people are speaking Russian.

E.g. Louis Vuitton bags at £3000 each or more.

They could probably buy a house in khon kaen for that price. 😃

I assume from that comment that you have signed up and posted the above from the Russian - Ukrainian front line!

He's not a Russian. He has Russophillic tendancies, has never said he is from there. Elsewhere he claims to have had a Russian officer dad, and that he's well read up on 80s British adult comics like Viz. So I'm supposing dad was actually a Kazakh deckhand off a Soviet trawler looking for a deal on a second hand Lada, mum lived in Grimsby or summit, where they have the fish factories..

Do these Russian tourists not understand their country is at war, a war that their president started BTW?

Then the trope that Thailand is full of draft dodgers must be false. Why would white, affluent Russians flee the country if they're not being drafted?

I'll let you in on a secret that the Russian property manager at my condo building told me:  they are avoiding the draft.

Da !

frank83628

Yes, it is true that the Russians win in a couple of ways in the war. And that is by bombing civilians and killing children and old innocents and then they also win big by managing to leave the most cannon fodder to Ukraine and losing various vehicles. All of this is only good for the world as it helps to clean up the world from garbage. May Ukraine bomb more Russians and others who help them per day so that the earth becomes free from s****.

I do not believe Russians have many choices.  If Thailand bans them then possibly Iran, China or N. Korea might be the next best options.

I agree. No one else wants or welcomes them.

Too lazy to read the thread, but what other countries other than North Korea would accept them?

Not only Thailand, but Vietnam, Maldives, Malaysia, , Laos, South Korea, Hong Kong, Brunei, Philippines, Macao, China, UAE, Indonesia to name but a few places in Asia alone. Go to Dubai at the moment and you'll soon understand where the wealthy Russians really are.

The Thai tourist board clutching at figures first it was the Chinese tourists then the the Indians now again it's the Russian tourists saving the Thai economy 😀

Not really. Russia does not send the urban conscripts to Ukraine. The people  dying in Ukraine are being sent from Siberia, and the "stanistan" regions. Most of the Russians I see in thailand  have been older than 30 years. Some of them are such slobs, I doubt they could pass the military physical.

Hua Hin is popular with the Russian families, and with what appear to be government bureaucrats or military members. They all have the same haircuts, and the men are physically fit. They stay for 1-2 weeks and then leave.

The dozen or so Russians I've encountered in Hua Hin, with a few conversations have been fine. Mostly younger, some with families at the beach. There are not that many and seem a different lot from the Phuket tribes. Not slobs at all and a few of the women with gorgeous toned bodies.  Friendly to talk with a don't mind being complimented.
