True, but can you blame them whilst Putin is in charge?

I do not believe Russians have many choices.  If Thailand bans them then possibly Iran, China or N. Korea might be the next best options.

Yeah, but question is why the Thai welcome them, and other countries do not. Or do only TAT and real estate developers welcome them, and don't care about the long-term effect on their country ?

This was how my Russian friends (who I had just met) made Bloody Marrys. After 2 no language barrier.image.jpeg.172dc463b7041a6e6b32395a057d4731.jpeg

My question is;

How do they get visas ?

Russians don't need visas for 60 days.

Unless doing online work then how are so many Russians supporting themselves for years living in Phuket etc ?

Was said before that would be lucky if 10% of Russians could actually afford to leave the country for a time to escape war and that most of them the money was earned by dodgy means .

If they have money, there's always a way to stay long-term,  Education visas, DTV, Volunteer visas, Border runs, etc.

I have a restaurant in Koh Samui where we get a few Russians of which most are families, pleasant, well behaved & are good spenders. Being a westerner there are a few cultural differences which takes a bit of getting used but overall they are quite ok so maybe we on Samui get the cream of the crop when it comes to Russians given what I read online.

A Russian woman once told me it is not in Russian culture to smile at strangers which makes them look rather dour and unfriendly. Russians have been brainwashed for years that the West is their enemy. Even though many use to Holiday and buy property in Europe and had the chance to learn the truth. Despite this the majority appear to agree with the war on Ukraine (according to polls) and very few look to find the truth. Some from fear of Putin's regime, others because they believe domestic propaganda and others who simply believe Russians are entitled to an empire. If Russians looked outside their limited world view they would know If the EU had to organise an offensive war, it would take until the heat death of the universe before the EU had agreed what colour curtains should be fitted in the war room. Thailand is so tied to tourism and desperate for tourists they are not choosy about the class of person who comes here otherwise Pattaya would have been cleaned up years ago.

and get close to a warzone safely?

I have met quite a lot of Russians over the years here in Phuket, couples, families and single guys and girls, what I have noticed if the kids grow up outside of the USSR, they are normal always smiling, one thing they are short on is good manners the kids don't get taught them like we English,

I do know Russian couples who have come here and had a baby they are nice always smiling,

I remember some years ago I helped a Russian family out and they were over the moon so much so he turned up at my house later in the day with a bottle of Champagne, my experience with them is they don't mind paying, but don't try ripping them off, they are fine,
