It's not as divided as people think. It was more divided during the late 1960s and early 1970s, of course there was no internet then. Then there was that nasty interlude between 1861 - 1865. Even during the American Revolution George Washington said something to the effect of "one-third are with us, one-third are against us and one-third don't care."

You could be right. I think one of the phenomenas that is happening is that though it may have been divided before, Trump is essentially giving his devotees permission to voice their hatred, division and intolerance, and that's what makes it seem so profoundly apparent now. He is a man of such incredible hatred, the man has such a dark heart, and I can only imagine what's going to happen if he's able to continue down this dreadful path that he's carved out, without much resistance. The dems really need to get their act together so they can resist this circus clown, and his incredibly nasty impulses.
