Stimulus: Thailand And Cambodia Close To War - Response: Goodbye Tourist

Featured Replies

People I know overseas and all concerned about "The Thai/Cambodian War."

::shock1: "Are you OK!!! <gasp>"

Given the reaction, I now realize that that will also be the reaction of people who WERE planning trips to Thailand, or Cambodia.
They better wrap up their slap-fight over a Khemer temple or both countries are going to have a really suckola tourist season 2025/2026.

That's how Chinese language media call it.

European media tend to downplay it.

THe UK FCDO has updated its travel advice to Thailand and Cambodia.

FCDO also advises against all but essential travel to border areas with Cambodia. Specifically:

within 50km of the whole border with Cambodia

There are updated reports of fighting including rocket and artillery fire on 24 July between Thailand and Cambodia, spreading across locations along the border. Casualties have been reported, as well as evacuations of areas close to the border. Land borders/crossings between Thailand and Cambodia have been suspended. Some tourist destinations in border areas such as the Khao Phra Wihan/Preah Vihear temple, the Ta Kwai/Ta Krabey temple and the Ta Muen Thom/Tamone Thom temple are currently closed.

There are also unexploded landmines in the border area.

We advise against all but essential travel to the affected border areas.

As the FCDO has not warned against non-essential travel to Thailand or Cambodia, there will be no special circumstances in place to be able to cancel a trip for a full refund. If the advice changes, insurance might be invalidated. Who knows, the world has lost its collective marbles.

My wife is worried about tourism. Her old school is now a refugee centre. Cue serious looking bloke meeting in the dead of night;

Been getting those ‘are you ok?’ messages since year dot even though a country-wide distance from action, disasters etc. People do that. At least they’re thinking about you.

Tourists will always come here, even if it properly kicks off… Bangkok cops a couple rockets followed by Phnom Phen getting flattened. Tourism would bounce right back, but it would be nice if the big you-know-who groups got scared and fkd off elsewhere. 🙂

Wow, people that care about you ... What's that like :cheesy:

My brothers are map savvy, and know we're not even close to that border.   Besides, Cambodia is only a threat to themselves :coffee1:

It's nice you admire THE MASTER.

But aren't you a tiny little bit premature?

As of now, they are happily shooting in both directions.

They agreed on a truce starting at midnight.

Hopefully the truce will actually start, and hopefully it will last.

Bangkok won't get any rockets as the max range of Cambodia is 150 km.
