In a groundbreaking move, Arab and Muslim states, including Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt, have united to call for Hamas to lay down its arms and relinquish control of the Gaza Strip. This unprecedented declaration emerged from a United Nations conference co-hosted by Saudi Arabia and France.

The initiative aims to address peaceful solutions to the ongoing conflict and promote a sovereign Palestinian state.

The 22-member Arab League, the EU, and 17 additional countries backed the declaration. The document asserts that governance and security across Palestinian territories should transition solely to the Palestinian Authority (PA), with appropriate international support, ending Hamas's rule in Gaza. It also proposes deploying a "temporary international stabilisation mission" under UN oversight to assist the transition, according to CNN.

France’s Foreign Minister, Jean-Noël Barrot, highlighted the significance of this move, noting the conference marked the first instance of Saudi Arabia and other Arab nations condemning Hamas's October 7, 2023 attack on Israel. The declaration reflects a broader desire for normalised relations with Israel and an ultimate two-state solution.

The Hostages and Missing Families Forum praised the statement, emphasising the importance of condemning actions like kidnapping that breach international law. Although Qatar and Egypt have served as mediators while keeping relations with both Hamas and Israel, this recent development indicates a change in regional dynamics.

In March, Egypt proposed a plan for Gaza excluding Hamas from governance, supporting a temporary Palestinian committee to assume control until a handover to the PA. Saudi Arabia has consistently advocated for a revival of the two-state solution that France and the UK support, with France poised to recognise a Palestinian state by September unless a ceasefire occurs.

Despite these diplomatic efforts, Hamas has shown no interest in ceding power in Gaza, leaving uncertainties about the path forward. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu remains opposed to a two-state solution, citing security concerns.

This unified call to disarm Hamas marks a significant moment in Middle Eastern diplomacy, illustrating a rare consensus among Arab nations and international powers. The implications for the future of Israeli-Palestinian relations remain to be seen, as stakeholders continue to navigate this complex geopolitical landscape.

From the OP:  Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu remains opposed to a two-state solution, citing security concerns.

Their proposal isn't going to work.

I agree. I guess some of the Arab world are tired of Hamas so it's a step in the right direction.

Yet those "brave" Arab countries won't even allow Palestinian women, children or babies into their countries.

Now if anyone would dare to suggest that they give up all their weapons and control of their countries, then you would hear the screams of protest.

So far only Jordan and the UAE have provided 1 aircraft each for food drops.

Those "rich" countries seem to have given no help at all.

Many of these “rich” states – especially post-Abraham Accords – are trying to deepen their ties with Israel and the U.S. for tech, weapons, and security cooperation. Public outrage in the Arab world is often not reflected by their governments, many of which are unelected and authoritarian. Qatar has given a lot.

Remember, Trump works for the Israel lobby.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told lawmakers during closed-door testimony before the the Knesset’s Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee yesterday that Israel is “destroying more and more houses [in Gaza and Palestinians accordingly] have nowhere to return,” according to quotes from the session leaked to the media.

“The only obvious result will be Gazans choosing to emigrate outside of the Strip,” Netanyahu continued. “But our main problem is finding countries to take them in.”

Netanyahu told the lawmakers that he has discussed Donald Trump’s plan for the US to take over Gaza with the president in recent days but acknowledged that there have been difficulties in implementing it.

You are missing the point of the ethnic cleansing of Gaza.

Once that’s complete Gaza becomes part of Israel .

But Israeli Palestinians will still be allowed to stay living in Israel
