I just started social security.  Checking my benefit verification letter it does show my basic SSA benefit amount which is what I expected.  However it also lists my medicare premiums and states how my SSA benefits will be reduced by those premiums as they are paid automatically.  Now all is correct, but I do not like that now were I to present this letter as a source of income, my income would be less.  Now most gross incomes of any types can have various deductions such as taxes and such, but now somebody would know up front my gross SSA benefit is lower.  I was expecting a simple statement of my gross SSA as others seemed to have thought in various posts.  So just be aware that if you are going to need your SSA benefit statement for some income purpose, it may not quite be as high as you expect

Imm (Hua Hin) won't accept SS statement as income verification, or 1099, or any other statement from the USA, to my knowledge.

Excuse my global ignorance - but what is SSA and what is the SSA letter from which country?

Each year I have submitted my Australian pension fund's annual update letter on my revised pension amount to Hua Hin Immigration for the purpose of visa extension and have had no problems, so far.

I have never been asked for or volunteered the SSA COLA or Benefit letters.

Yes, I have it in hand if requested.

You prove your monthly qualifying "income" by showing bank documents (passbook, statements, Credit Advice Receipts) which indicate monthly foreign inbound transfers of 65,000+.

SSA Social Security Administration in the USA.  It is the USA federal pension system basically.  Wages are taxed and monies are paid into it.  The benefit letter states how much your monthly benefit that you are receiving.

I can't think of any reason for needing a benefit statement letter in Thailand. Certainly not for immigration purposes.

I wasn't planning or intending necessarily for my post to be relevant to Thailand per se. In the USA listing gross income is often necessary to sign apartment lease, or  apply for a loan or house mortgage, etc.  I just meant to state that the benefit letter doesn't just show the gross as I expected and thought I had heard.  One has all sorts of possible tax situations, so just the gross was what I was hoping for.  The letter now showing the Medicare deductions surprised me.

Not sure how it works now, but in the past it was always the gross amount that was used, not the Net. On my most recent letter from SSA it shows both the gross and the net. Never been asked for either in the nine years I have been doing extensions. Rayong Immigration.

I always have it with me just in case. Never give anything that is not required. Let them ask for it.
