I guess I'm not a fashionista, because both the checkered and plaid look butt ugly to me.....unless I'm watching a 1950s sitcom on Nickelodeon. I think the Cleaver boys wore things like that. Dobie Gillis, too.

In Bangkok, most of the old guys I see wear wifebeaters or t-shirts they bought at a rock concert in the era between Chuck Berry and Coldplay. They have man boobs they cannot hide, and they've decided the way to become a babe magnet is to get Maori warrior tatted up on flabby, wrinkled arms. I guess it works for them, but it's not a look to which I will aspire with age.

Preferably one stays fit and defined, and if a dress shirt is called for, go with something classy and timeless like a Stefano Ricci or Brioni (not their wild prints, but the subtle colors and stripes). If daytime casual, crisp linen shorts and a dark cotton polo-style shirt, tucked in, hit the mark. Untucking doesn't mask the blubber, so tucking it in can motivate a man to drop the fat. He cannot pretend the 40" waist is really only 30".

By all means avoid cargo shorts, which should be outlawed by some UN rule or the World Court, if not just common decency. NOBODY has so much to carry that they need all those pockets. Rent a flat or buy a condo, and store the stuff there.

And no matter what age, lose the beer gut and the spare tires. Nothing can make those look good.

My fat ass and the enormous fistful of thousand baht bills poking out of my collared up checked shirt which is unbuttoned at the bottom to allow my belly to drape over my cargo shorts, black nylon socks and sandals beats classy and Timeless broke Brioni everyday.

All I can tell you is this:

I would far prefer to see many more individuals, members of the Red-Headed League, ones with an especially checkered past, join your Checkered-Shirt Brigade, mentioned in this glorious Topic.

What can be done about this?

You must know if anyone might....maybe....

May I suggest long periods of total darkness in a small closet. It has been known to treat excessive LSD consumption.

I love sensory deprivation, unless it gets out of hand.

Checkered shirts cause me over stimulation, whereupon I must lock myself in my sensory deprivation chamber, for about and hour, until I recover from the aftereffects of even one sighting of a checkered shirt.

There are far worse fashion crimes than checkered shirts.

What I find more offensive is a Chang wife-beater, cargo shorts with 17 pockets, black socks that go half-way up the calf, and a pair of luminous Crocs.

Always initiates my pharyngeal reflex. Go on - google it. :coffee1:

How about a Singha vest and no socks  ...

Checkered shirts should come with a warning label.

Why is it the checkered shirt is favored by so many old gits in Thailand? Are you one of them?

Speak up loudly and proudly.

Bought in open market. Pattaya, provs. Cheap. Even Lotus, Big C BKK doesn't stock such ghastly clothing.

Nothing screams louder I am a tool except for cargo shorts and tired t-shirt

Except it doesn't.

You will always pay more and be subtly disrespected being fat and poor dresser in Bangkok

Fat, bad complexion, bad clothes and teeth. Probably a smoker too. Yeah  you'll need that wad of cash...

Our ladies don't really care what we wear as long as their wallet is stuffed.

You've reduced yourself to a banal commodity. My wife cares who I am, that I'm dressed properly and how I conduct myself.

I'm pleased when I can catch a Thai woman's eye and the younger the better. You? Oooh right, just pay for it...

This whole notion of Thai women not caring...what a laff.

For the losers that don't think it matters - it does, but go on thinking it doesn't. This is just old, gross, stuck in old man mindset unable to see outside your box and not caring to.

I have a challenge. You wear your grubby garb, I'll dress as I do daily. We have a sit at stumble. For every woman that approaches half a beer is to be paid (2x 1 beer).

We can try it at Thermae as well. Walk the circle with someone behind counting women that appear to have genuine interest.

The idea that money buys the woman is such a laff.

I was just at Stumble last night. Ugly, unkept slob in t-shirt and cheap shorts bought two rounds for three women. Two of them gave me the eye roll when hugging him (like...ugh, so gross) so I started making all sorts of jokes and drama and the girls were just dying of laughter... in tears.

Would you want to have sex with a fat ugly woman? No? I'm so surprised. Them too

The cash comes in handy.

In my country we name it Canadian lumberjack shirts

Nah they are plaid and the material is too course.

Engineers were check shirts. Sleeves rolled up to show they don't spend the whole day sat at a desk.

I'm a big fan of African clothing. I saw a Nigerian guy at the checkout in KL and he was dressed so sharp he looked like a film star. I asked for his tailor. He gave the card to me.

Did it have his bank account details on it and something about taking the shirt off your back ?

Not at all, he was a diplomat and a real gentleman. Also accompanied by a stunning blonde.

I bet you did that behind his back.

Didn't want to get caught mocking a man's appearance, involving some girls in your bullying of him, and risking a beating in full view of amused onlookers.

That guy wasn't up for beating his own meat let alone me.

Hit too close to home Winner?

I have some personal experience as to  how Nigerian scammers operate  . Expensive  suit , polite,  Rolex   etc as you describe . No blonde though , otherwise things might have turned out  differently !
