A 79-year-old man was fatally struck by a 10-wheel truck while crossing the road in Krathum Baen district, Samut Sakhon province, on 20 August at approximately 16:30.

Police from Krathum Baen Station, doctors from Krathum Baen Hospital, and volunteers from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation responded to the scene on Phutthasakhon Road near the Sakorn Kasem bridge junction.

The victim, identified as Mr. Sujin, was found lying on the right side of the road, deceased at the scene, with a walking stick and a bag he had been carrying nearby. The collision occurred just after a pedestrian footbridge.

The truck involved, an Isuzu 10-wheel vehicle (registration from Samut Sakhon) loaded with steel construction materials, was parked close to the scene, with the driver waiting to give a statement to authorities.

The truck driver reported that he had been heading to deliver goods in Khae Rai subdistrict. He stated he had attempted to overtake a car that had slowed down, being unaware of the pedestrian crossing and was unable to stop in time, striking the man.

Police took the driver in for questioning and plan to interview witnesses as well as review nearby CCTV footage to determine the exact circumstances of the collision. The victim’s body was sent to Siriraj Hospital’s forensic institute for further examination.

I can't see how this could be anything other than the old fella's own fault...
