Accident Two Killed, Including 15-Year-Old, in Crash withTruck
Picture courtesy of Khaosod. Two people, one of them a 15-year-old boy, have been killed after their motorcycle collided with a trailer truck in Ayutthaya province. The truck driver fled the scene. The crash occurred at around 19.30 on 21 August on the Nakhon Luang–Bo Phong Road, near a fertiliser warehouse in Pak Chan subdistrict, Nakhon Luang district. Police and rescue workers arriving at the scene found a grey Honda motorcycle, badly damaged and the bodies of two victims who had been dragged several metres. They were identified as Mr Settharin, 15 and Mr Teerapong, 25, who had been riding the motorcycle. A trailer truck with Chonburi licence plates was discovered parked nearby, but the driver was missing. A 14-year-old eyewitness told police he had been riding behind the victims when heavy rain began to fall, prompting them to accelerate to escape the downpour. As they did so, the trailer truck pulled out of the fertiliser warehouse, cutting across their path. The motorcycle struck the vehicle with force, before being dragged along the road. The witness said he shouted for the driver to stop. The driver halted and briefly checked the scene, claiming he had not seen the motorcycle, before taking advantage of the confusion to escape. Lt-Gen Amarit Boonsuya, leading Thailand’s delegation, announced these initiatives as an expansion of the previous 13-point agreement established in a prior GBC meeting in Malaysia. Cambodia was represented by Gen Ek Sam Oun, and both sides reached a consensus to form a coordination group and local-level border committee to address ongoing issues. The agreement includes clearing mines for humanitarian purposes and targeting transnational crimes, like scam call centres. The collaboration will continue to evolve, as these topics are set to be discussed further at the next GBC meeting, although the date is yet to be confirmed. Lt. Gen. Amarit emphasised that the Cambodian Minister of Interior will be the main channel for coordinating with the Thai counterpart on these critical issues, according to Thai PBS World. Regarding border disputes, both parties have agreed to tackle the matter by forming dedicated coordination groups and local-level committees. This move aims to address disputes more effectively at the local level. Lt-Gen Amarit also noted Cambodia's claim that discussions on alleged violations related to MOU 43 fall outside the RBC's purview. However, Thailand has shown intent to resolve these issues by proposing them to the GBC through the Joint Boundary Commission (JBC). Ultimately, this meeting resulted in the signing of a memorandum of understanding with 16 points, incorporating the three new areas of cooperation suggested by Thailand. Crime Immigration Officer Wanted After Shooting Sisters, Killing One

Police in Ranong are hunting an immigration officer who allegedly opened fire on his two elder sisters, killing one and seriously injuring another, during a drunken rampage in the early hours of 22 August. The suspect, identified as Pol Sub-Lt. Somsak, 54, an immigration officer in Ranong and a former provincial shooting athlete, is accused of storming a grocery shop run by one of his sisters in Ban Hin Dat, Sai Daeng subdistrict, just after midnight. According to investigators, Somsak, who was reportedly intoxicated, began arguing with his 75-year-old sister, Yuwapa, injuring her hand during the quarrel. He then threatened to “kill the whole family,” prompting relatives to flee to the grocery shop owned by another, 71-year-old sister, Yupayong. Witnesses said the officer followed them with a 9mm pistol, firing two warning shots into the air before unleashing a volley at the shop’s steel shutter. Bullets struck Yupayong, who collapsed and died at the scene, while Yuwapa suffered a gunshot wound to her left thumb. She was taken to Ranong Hospital and is received treatment. Police at the scene recovered two spent 9mm cartridges and noted eight bullet holes in the shop’s door. Authorities have launched a manhunt for the officer, who fled following the attack.
