A man was killed instantly and his wife left critically injured after their motorcycle skidded on sand and toppled beneath the wheel of a six-wheeled lorry in Bang Phli district.

The fatal incident occurred at 17:48 on 27 August, on inbound Thepharak Road near kilometre marker 19 in Bang Chalong. CCTV footage captured the moment the motorcycle lost balance on the roadside shoulder, sending both rider and passenger into the path of a passing lorry. The 45-year-old rider, Mr. Pinyo Phumirak, suffered fatal head injuries when the rear wheel ran over him. His wife, Ms. Kanjasares Phumirak, also 45, sustained serious injuries.

Rescue workers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation rushed to the scene, providing emergency aid before transferring Ms. Phumirak to Chularat Suvarnabhumi Hospital. Police investigators later confirmed Mr. Phumirak had died instantly at the scene.

The lorry driver, Mr. Jeerawat, initially unaware of the collision, told police he was driving in the left lane when other motorists alerted him by sounding their horns. He pulled over about one kilometre ahead and returned to the site, where he surrendered to authorities. “I didn’t realise I had run over anyone,” he said, adding that witnesses reported two motorcycles had been riding side by side before the crash.

In a gesture of remorse, Mr. Jeerawat was seen bowing and apologising beside the victim’s body, insisting the tragedy was unintentional.

Colleagues of the deceased revealed that Mr. Phumirak was a supervisor in the Japanese kitchen section of a local food production factory. He and his wife had been on their way home to Suvarnabhumi housing estate after finishing work.

Police from Bang Phli station took the lorry driver in for further questioning as part of legal proceedings. Officers also used the incident to warn motorcyclists against riding on inner lanes of major highways such as Thepharak and Bang Na-Trat, citing high risks of fatal crashes.
