Upgrade Of Spyware Terminator Causing Slowdown

Featured Replies

Hi

I just installed the offered updates of Spyware Terminator (a program which has served me well in the past) on two PCs but many programs have slowed down to a crawl, most notably DSynchronize. The moment I switch off Spyware Terminator (ST) everything runs at normal speeds.

All settings in the new ST are identical to the ones of the old installation.

Is it time to ditch ST or is there a trick I am not aware of?

Has the upgrade inadvertently created two instances of the program?

Thanks for your reply.

Not that I can see. Startup has only one entry and services has only one shield and one clam service running (same as on a third PC which is still running the older version of ST).

I guess the best is to just uninstall ST and re-download the latest version and see what happens.

I was only surprised that it happened on two PCs. One this morning and one just this evening with same results. That's why I thought there may be a known problem with ST updates.

Do a full uninstall of ST then reinstall the latest version. Could be you had a slightly older version that the updates didn't agree with.

I did a clean sweep and installed a new download of ST. Result: much better but not as good as before.

Main problem is DSynchronize, it runs at a crawl when I have ST running.

Usually I run DSynchronize every 24hrs and it never took more than 3-5 mins to complete with ST running, now after half an hour only 30-40% complete but once I exit ST it goes as smooth as usual.

I guess there is an incompatibility between the latest ST and some programs.

Not a big problem since I can exit ST when I know to be running on safe ground.

ST updated itself 2 days ago and now everything is back to normal.

Apparently it was a problem with the previous upgrade.
