A traffic crash at the Pa Sak intersection in Bang Rakam district of Phitsanulok, has claimed the life of an 18-year-old athlete and left eight others injured. The crash involved a six-wheel bus carrying university athletes and an oil tanker.

Police from the Nikhom Sang Ton Eng station were alerted to the incident at around 20:00 on 29 August. Rescue workers from the Prasat Boon Sathan Foundation used cutting equipment to free passengers trapped inside the bus.

The bus, registered in Si Sa Ket and marked with “National Sports University, Si Sa Ket Campus”, had overturned after colliding with a tanker from B.R.K. Inter Transport Ltd., which had then veered off into a roadside canal.

The deceased, Phumon Samnuk, was a takraw player seated at the front of the bus. Among the injured, two suffered serious injuries, three moderate and four minor injuries. The bus driver and passengers of the oil tanker sustained only minor injuries. All victims were swiftly transported to Bang Rakam Hospital, while the body of the deceased was sent to Naresuan University Hospital for autopsy.

Investigators reported that the team had been travelling from Si Sa Ket to Sukhothai to compete in the 48th Physical Education Games, scheduled from 1–10 September 2025. Unfamiliar with the route, the driver relied on GPS navigation, arriving at the dark and hazardous intersection, where the collision occurred.

Local residents noted that crashes at the Pa Sak intersection are common, particularly at night. Authorities continue to investigate the precise cause of the crash and will take legal action as appropriate.
