A police officer was fatally stabbed outside a house in Nakhon Si Thammarat, authorities confirmed.

At around 21:00 on 31 August, Lt. Col. Sarasit Hotaisong, Deputy Inspector at Bang Khan Police Station, received a report of a deceased person found outside a residence in Wang Hin subdistrict, Bang Khan district. Officers immediately notified senior officials and, together with Police Colonel Jakkrich Taewtana, the station chief, a forensic team, the on-duty doctor from Bang Khan Hospital and the Siam Ruamjai Pu-in Foundation, proceeded to the scene.

The victim, later identified as Police Sergeant Major Monpichai, 44, from the Special Training Division 8 of the Border Patrol Police at Srinakarin Camp in Thung Song, was found lying face down in a pool of blood. He had suffered multiple stab wounds to the back (two), left chest (one), face (one) and under his chin (one).

Police said the suspected assailant, identified only as Mr A, 39, a relative of the victim, has a history of severe drug abuse and frequently exhibits violent and erratic behaviour at home. Following the attack, he fled into a rubber plantation behind the house, which adjoins a wooded hillside, making immediate capture difficult.

Investigations revealed that Sgt. Maj. Monpichai had attended a funeral for Mr A’s grandfather at Thung Kwai Temple earlier in the day. He then offered to escort Mr A’s father, who has a leg disability, back home. It was while helping Mr A’s father from the vehicle that Mr A allegedly became agitated and stabbed the officer, who died at the scene.

Police Colonel Jakkrich Taewtana said the suspect had previously been arrested and sent for drug rehabilitation and is required to take prescribed medication. He added that Mr A may have experienced a drug-induced psychotic episode during the incident. “The case is straightforward, and we are confident the suspect will be apprehended and brought to justice,” he said.

Authorities are continuing their search for the suspect in the surrounding area.
