Police have arrested a 39-year-old man wanted for the murder of a paramilitary police officer in Bang Khan district, following a two-day manhunt.

The victim, Pol. Sgt. Maj. Monpichai, 44, of the Special Training Division, Border Patrol Police, Srikharin Camp, Thung Song district, was fatally attacked by his cousin, Mr Ekachai, aged 39. The killing occurred outside a home in Wang Hin Subdistrict late at night while the officer was dropping off Mr Ekachai’s disabled father.

Local residents reported seeing Mr Ekachai wandering aimlessly in a nearby oil palm plantation 2–3 kilometres from the scene. He was reportedly incoherent and appeared disoriented. Police swiftly deployed an investigative team and located him in a fatigued state, in possession of a distinctive short, wavy-bladed knife known as a “kris.” He was taken into custody and transported to Bang Khan police station.

Initial questioning revealed that Mr Ekachai was unable to provide coherent responses, speaking in a confused and repetitive manner, suggesting he may still be under psychological distress or experiencing hallucinations.

Authorities have filed preliminary charges of homicide. Mr Ekachai is scheduled for a medical evaluation to assess his physical and mental state before further questioning and legal proceedings.
