Cybercrime authorities have travelled to Singapore to strengthen international collaboration with social media giant Meta in tackling technology-related crime.

On 2 September, Pol Lt Gen Trairong Phiwpan, Commander of the Technology Crime Suppression Division, led a delegation of senior officers and officials to meet with Rob Abrams, Head of Law Enforcement Outreach, Asia Pacific, at Meta’s Singapore headquarters.

The discussions focused on enhancing cooperation to prevent, investigate and suppress cybercrime, particularly crimes conducted via social media, a key tool for cybercriminal networks.

Five main areas were addressed during the talks:

1. Exchange of investigative information on major cases to target scam centres and transnational criminal organisations.

2. Disruption of financial networks used by criminal groups.

3. Blocking telecommunications communications of fraudulent operators.

4. Prevention and suppression of human trafficking.

5. Collaboration between international law enforcement and social media platforms to design tools supporting officers and protecting the public from online crime.

Officials said the partnership aims to create effective and timely measures to respond to the rapidly evolving landscape of cybercrime.
