Quezon City has reported 7,686 dengue cases from January 1 to September 9, with children under ten being the most affected group. According to a recent Facebook post by the QC Epidemiology & Surveillance Division (QCESD), dengue cases in the city increased by 126.53% compared to the same period in 2024. Out of the total cases, 3,783 involved children under ten, with 23 fatalities recorded.

QCESD has issued several advisories to prevent further dengue spread. Residents are urged to eliminate stagnant water in items like buckets, vases, tires, bottles, and gutters where mosquitoes breed. Additionally, wearing long-sleeved clothing and applying mosquito repellent during peak mosquito activity times, from 6 to 8 AM and 4 to 6 PM, are recommended precautions.

UNICEF highlights several symptoms of dengue in children, including sudden fever, severe headache, eye and joint pain, vomiting, and skin rashes. Affected children may also exhibit irritability, impacting their eating and sleeping patterns. The Quezon City local government unit advises immediate consultation with a health center or hospital if symptoms appear, to ensure timely medical attention.

Looking ahead, health authorities continue monitoring and implementing preventive measures to control the outbreak. The community is encouraged to actively participate in the advisories to prevent further dengue transmission. Continual public awareness efforts are crucial as the rainy season progresses, which historically increases mosquito populations.

Key Takeaways

  • Dengue cases in Quezon City surged by over 126% compared to 2024.
  • Children under ten are most affected, with 23 recorded fatalities.
  • Residents are advised to prevent mosquito breeding and seek medical care promptly.
