Manila City Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso confirmed that the city suffered approximately ₱10 million in damages due to a riot that occurred on Sunday, September 21, 2025. The damages include destruction to a hotel that protesters and police entered during the chaos. Stoplights and other government properties also faced significant destruction.

The riot erupted during a demonstration at Mendiola, Recto, and Quezon Boulevard in Manila and escalated into violence between protesters and police, leading to damaged government assets. Mayor Domagoso accused a former politician and lawyer of being behind the unrest. He emphasized the difficulty in replacing some of the damaged items like stoplights, as they are specialized products not readily available.

The mayor stated that the groups involved in the riot must be held accountable for the damages and the injuries reportedly inflicted on police officers. He assured that all apprehended individuals would face legal consequences. “Nagdesisyon sila ng ganyan, then we will throw the books at them," Domagoso declared, affirming his commitment to ensuring that they pay for the damages.

Moving forward, as repairs are underway, the focus remains on restoring order and addressing the damage to public infrastructure. The city government is expected to work on obtaining replacements for the damaged traffic equipment, which may take time due to the uniqueness of the products required. Meanwhile, legal actions against those responsible are imminent.

Key Takeaways

  • Manila riot results in significant damage, totaling ₱10 million.
  • Mayor Domagoso blames a former politician for inciting the violence.
  • Authorities vow legal action against apprehended protesters for damages.

The protests are against contractors, govt employees and politicians who stole Billions of pesos in a 'flood control' scam.

One of the contractors had 27 luxury cars, worth ten times that 10 million pesos. Just confiscate all the assets of the Guilty before you jail them!

I don't like the destruction, it doesn't help.  Those who did it should go to jail.  Sharing a cell with the corrupt contractors and officials of course.  The contractor with those luxury cars?  Shouldn't be too difficult to ask that contractor to prove where the money came from or lose them.  Unless those who should be asking those questions are equally corrupt.  This is not difficult folks.
