St. Andrews Green Valley earns Wellbeing Award renewal

St. Andrews International School, Green Valley, has once again been officially recognised with the Wellbeing Award for Schools (WAS) following its recent re-accreditation.

Developed by Optimus Education in partnership with the National Children’s Bureau, the award celebrates schools that place mental health and wellbeing at the heart of their community.

St. Andrews Green Valley first received the award in 2022, becoming the first school in Thailand to do so. Its latest renewal in 2025 reflects a continued commitment to creating a safe, inclusive, and emotionally supportive environment for students, staff, and families.

The path to accreditation

The Wellbeing Award for Schools was designed to help schools across the UK and internationally build a culture where mental health and emotional wellbeing are central to daily life.

Schools must complete an extensive process involving self-evaluation, strategic planning, professional development, and ongoing review. Evidence is gathered to demonstrate how the school supports not only its students but also staff and parents in maintaining good mental health and emotional resilience.

How St. Andrews Green Valley meets the standard

At St. Andrews Green Valley, well-being is a shared responsibility, not just a policy. Teachers, leaders, and support staff all play an active role in making sure every student feels valued and supported.

“We are immensely proud of our culture of care at Green Valley,” a school representative said. “Working towards the Wellbeing Award for Schools ensures we reach a high standard in the way we support and care for our community and are always striving to enhance our provision.”

One key strength highlighted in the WAS report was the active role students play in shaping school life. Student voice initiatives encourage children to express their opinions, share feedback, and help make decisions that affect their daily experiences.

The report noted that “Students feel very safe and know adults in school genuinely care about their wellbeing.”

Parents as active partners

St. Andrews Green Valley also views parents as essential partners in their children’s education and wellbeing journey. The school’s wellbeing strategy includes parents in meaningful ways, recognising that their connections and experiences matter too.

Visitors often see parents joining Pilates classes, participating in friendly sports matches, attending workshops, or relaxing at the school’s coffee shop. These activities help build a sense of community and foster supportive networks among families.

The WAS report acknowledged this inclusive approach, stating: “Parents value the work of the school in supporting both students and the wider family. They appreciate the focus on pastoral support and guidance for their children.”

A culture built on consistency

Earning the award in both 2022 and 2025 shows a commitment to long-term, meaningful action rather than one-time initiatives.

The impact goes beyond recognition. The process has strengthened morale, affirmed the school’s values, and improved the overall quality of pastoral care for students.

Wellbeing is not treated as a separate programme but as something integrated into the entire school culture. From lessons and extracurricular activities to teacher training and parent engagement, it is part of everything the school does.

Looking ahead

St. Andrews Green Valley plans to build on this success, continuing to invest in training, student voice opportunities, and community partnerships. The school aims to ensure that wellbeing remains at the centre of everything it does, providing a safe, inclusive environment where every student can thrive academically and emotionally.

For families, the award offers reassurance that their children are supported in all aspects of their development. For staff, it reflects the school’s commitment to their own mental health and professional wellbeing.
