Starmer Slams Reform UK’s ‘Racist, Immoral’ Immigration Plan

Sir Keir Starmer has fiercely criticised Reform UK's policy to abolish indefinite leave to remain, calling it "racist" and "immoral." Nigel Farage's controversial plan could lead to the deportation of hundreds of thousands of legally residing migrants. Starmer voiced these concerns as questions continue to swirl regarding his leadership amid Labour’s conference in Liverpool.

Reform UK's proposal would require migrants to reapply for visas under stricter guidelines, effectively terminating indefinite leave to remain (ILR). Currently, migrants can secure ILR after five years, allowing permanent residency in the UK. Meanwhile, Labour intends to double this period to ten years, reflecting its broader immigration policy strategy announced earlier this year.

Speaking with the BBC, Starmer argued that eliminating ILR unfairly targets lawful residents. He emphasised, "These are our neighbours and integral members of our community; they are vital to our economy." Despite harsh words against the policy, he acknowledged that Reform supporters might be frustrated after numerous Conservative government failures, rather than inherently racist.

Reform UK, responding through spokesperson Zia Yusuf, condemned Starmer’s remarks. Yusuf accused Labour of demanding excessive financial support for foreign nationals at the expense of British citizens. Public opinion appears divided; a YouGov poll indicated 58% oppose removing ILR for current holders, although 44% support abolishing it as policy.

Alongside these developments, Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood suggested legislative adjustments to tighten ILR eligibility. She maintains that migration can benefit Britain, provided migrants contribute positively to their communities. These discussions coincide with ongoing challenges in the Labour party, from internal disagreements to dissatisfaction with leadership.

While Labour members rally in Liverpool, Sir Keir Starmer aims to clarify his vision for the party's future. This comes amid leadership challenges from figures like Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham and other political pressures. Despite Labour's current lagging poll numbers behind Reform UK, Starmer vowed to confront these issues head-on.

Addressing party unity, Starmer highlighted the stakes involved in countering Reform UK, stating, "This is a battle for the heart of our country." With whispers of a potential leadership challenge, he stressed the necessity for collective resilience within the party. Starmer reiterated Labour’s resolve, focusing on its principles while facing off against Reform’s emerging threat.

As anticipation builds over an upcoming Budget announcement, discussions linger regarding possible tax hikes. Sir Keir avoided confirming changes, referencing the electoral manifesto that brought Labour to power. Economic experts predict fiscal amendments necessary to achieve Chancellor Rachel Reeves’ borrowing targets, keeping UK political dynamics in flux.

Key Takeaways

  • Reform UK aims to abolish indefinite leave to remain, prompting backlash from Sir Keir Starmer.
  • Labour plans to extend the ILR qualification period from five to ten years, signalling policy shifts.
  • Political tensions rise within Labour amid challenges to Starmer’s leadership.

No doubt Starmer has been a crushing disappointment, however on this issue he is rite.

How on earth can anyone trust Farage after the disaster of Brexit, no tangible benefits to Brexit at all - saw the pound collapse and made the UK weaker. Now he talks of removing visas (indefinate leave to remain) of people who have been settled here for years (including Europeans, Americans, Australians).

The economy will collapse again, and the Pound will be further destroyed.

But racists, especially those on benefits, feel protected as the state keeps paying them, so to them it's fine to be racist. The true confused are the racist British immigrants in Thailand - who are racist to the chore, without realising him getting into power will collapse the pound and make them poorer.

Nigel Farage was paid £40,000 by American company Nomad Capitalist that helps the super rich cut tax bills - and helps people obtain second residencies and citizenships. Yes, how to become immigrants.

The company says it helps people “obtain a second residency and second citizenship to enhance your freedom and options”, including second residencies, dual citizenship, and tax residency.

Someone may say, yes, but they're white and rich so it's ok.

Brits are, generally, not racist compared with many other nationalities, and have welcomed many other ethnic groups over hundreds of years.

Of course he does. It is the standard trope when you have nothing else.

I wonder why this non white guy, doesn't agree with him

Yet the prime minister may be walking into a trap laid by his enemy. First, if you plan to throw this particular stone, you need to make sure you’re not standing in a glass house.

The government has proposed doubling the time it takes for migrants to qualify for indefinite leave to remain to ten years.

Like Farage’s policy on indefinite leave, it would apply to Australians and Americans as much as to Indians and Nigerians.
The Reform policy may be cruel, disproportionate and impracticablebut it is no more and no less racist than the government’s plan.

Already seeing some of the negativity towards Farages polcies.

A doctor from South Africa was set to come to the UK, but fears there will be no pathway to citizenship if Reform make it to power (he already can't bring his family with him).

He has decided to go to Australia instead - where the wages are already better, and he then has a path for a more comfortable life and citizenship.

It's a competition around the world to secure the best in the world. So if the EU, Canada, Australia etc all offer pathways to stay long term with family, and citizenship they will go elsewhere.

Remember 72% of the people on ILR who have been living here for years are white - special fact for racists.

THIS IS NOT ASYLUM SEEKERS - this is legal migration, and those who are earning, who have passed language tests, paid the NHS surcharges, have money saved in a bank, past the life in the UK test (which no local would pass), etc

THIS GUY IS GOING TO WRECK THE ECONOMY.

HIS BREXIT WAS WRECKLESS AND POINTLESS - DID NOTHING. It delivered jack all.

Pandering to racists.

Source ?

The Home Secretary will announce today, at a speech at the Labour Conference, that migrants must contribute, or be sent home.

How racist is that 😀😀

1 million foreigners claiming £7.5 Billion a year in benefits, start packing your bags.

The racist Home Secretary has made you persona non grata.

Dont let the door hit your arse on the way out.

If you are not going to offer any benefits to come to Britian, people will go elsewhere.

Might as well go to Canada/Australia/EU where there are pathways to citizenship.

Only way for Farages policy of removing the indefinatel leave to remain visa (most racists will have no idea what this is) to work would be to offer high wages, tax free like Dubai to incentivise people to come. So far the wages for professionals like doctors are some of the lowest in the world, but people come because they think in the long term it might be good to settle in the UK.

There is no way they will start paying doctors double, as the state handouts to local bendirom brits is massive.

I actually think it's good the British economy will collapse. They deserve it.

The sources Farage used already said those figures are incorrect. Quel surprise. Just like his Brexit FACTS - all fall under scrutiny.

THE INDEFINATE LEAVE TO REMAIN VISA IS FOR WORKING PEOPLE - NOT ASYLUM SEEKERS.

How can you expect racists to understand the differences? Just like Brexit the common man will have no clue.

To get the indefinate leave to remain you need to be working, have lived here for 5 years (soon to be 7), no criminal record, have something like £20,000 in savings (soon to be higher), have a job, do a life in the UK test, do an english speaking test, and pay a NHS fee before you arrive. You can then get this visa to stay and settle in the UK. IT IS FOR PROFESSIONALS.

It is not for people coming over and claiming benefits.

The Government / DWP figures  are wrong ?

Quote

More than £7.5bn is being spend on universal credit as over one million foreign nationals are claiming benefits, Government figures have shown.

Figures from the Department of Work and Pensions have shown that households with at least one foreign national claimant received over £7.5billion in benefits in 2023.

Government sources said 770,000 universal credit claimants who are EU citizens

The only " Quelle Surprise " is how much you bump your gums, for someone who knows so little.

You will find both quotes above, on that well known Right Wing Rag, commonly known as the Guardian.

https://www.thelondoneconomic.com/politics/reform-immigration-plans-scrap-indefinite-leave-to-remain-398253/

Reform’s immigration policy announcement fell apart after the think tank it based its numbers on admitted they are wrong.

On Monday, party leader Nigel Farage announced Reform would scrap indefinite leave to remain (ILR) for migrants if they won the next general election.

However, under Reform’s plans, migrants would need to reapply for new visas with tougher rules every five years.

The party also said it wants to bar anyone other than British citizens from accessing welfare.

Reform claim that these plans would save £234bn over several decades.

But shortly after the party’s announcement, the Centre for Policy Studies (CPS) – whose research Reform had used to reach the £234bn figure – said the cost estimates should “no longer be used.”

This came after a challenge by the Office for Budget Responsibility.

If you are a doctor, and you are in demand in UK, Australia, Canada, EU countries or Dubai. Where would you go if you reform policies ?

The highest paid is Dubai, tax free. But do you really want to live there?

For me, if reform policies held up and you had no pathway to citizenship or able to bring your family there and live - why on earth would you go to the UK ?!!?!?

This is pandering to racists and wrecking the economy.

NOT A SINGLE RACIST BREXIT VOTER EVER SAID WE WANT TO BAN LEGAL MIGRATION AND SKILLED MIGRATION. BUT IT WAS ALWAYS THE CASE - racists don't care, deep down they hate them all.

They are insulated from wrecking the economy as the benefits will keep coming.

AI Overview

The claim that 72% of people with Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) are white is

incorrect and appears to be based on a misunderstanding or a misrepresentation of UK government data. The most recent government statistics indicate that the white ethnic group makes up a significantly smaller portion of ILR holders compared to the percentage cited in the query.

It would appear that your 72% claim is incorrect

Starmer and Labour are refusing to listen to  people. Farage is popular because he is listening and  offering a viable option.

The negative impact of Brexit has a lot more to do with the failures of the people of the UK than anything else. The financial and manufacturing conglomerates failed to invest in the UK , and the people of the UK wanted a free ride. The fact that

France and Belgium  have been petty and vindictive, attempting to  extort the UK, has not helped matters. The fundamental changes needed to support Brexit have not been made in large part because too many UK citizens expect to be subsidized and to receive generous social benefits despite not contributing anything to the nation.

Why is there absolute no push back from the racists that the Brexit Farage fought for bought no benefits, and has presented barely any growth in the Uk since the vote. Why has Farage not got any criticism ?

Now you want to trust him again, when most authorities and the markets will collapse the UK economy again (because we need them for the huge volume we borrow).

WHY DO RACISTS WANT THE POUND TO COLLAPSE MORE ?

Mongering is already expensive out there.
