The good thing with weights, you can fix your performance and form and avoid things like shoulder issues. I fixed my now by following a simple shoulder program found on youtube. Anyway, sorry to hear about your setback.

Thanks and it is getting better already. I forgot how to bench and was powering up with my shoulders ( not retracted) which puts immense torque on the shoulders. A few more weeks of pushups with retracted shoulder and be as good as new.

What you do, and where you do it, is not that important to others. What you do is for you, not for anyone else pleasure ;-)

  • I like doing it on my dirt bike or on a hike.

Bands are great for rear delts. I invented this exercise called circles which really targets them.

I had more than a few pages a ways back, but gave them all a reprieve. Until recently, only had 2 people on it, as simply living fake lives and posted nothing but BS.

Past couple weeks, added a few of the people that spew nothing but hate & negativity. Most of it completely false, or totally unnecessary. More than a few, sad, mentally ill folks on AN. IMHO

If they actually talked and acted like that in real life, they have a very short life span.

I'm sticking to EV, food, photo & vid crap of late. Probably boring the hell out of some folks. Everyday life BS. As can't seem to have a rational conversation with most topics.

Yes they would not abuse me in real life. I"m 6 foot 4. A computer gives them confidence and an outlet. I think around 2/3 of farangs in Thailand are not good people.

The ones I've actually gotten to know, 1/3 being good, might be a bit generous 😂

Lucky enough to meet quite a few like minded folks while living at Udon. TBH, not a whole lot different from folks in USA, though TH does seem to attract some real bottom dwellers. Easily spotted and avoided, thankfully.

Still the best 25 years of my life, here in TH. USA was great, so that's saying quite a bit. Don't know how so many are filled with hate & negativity.

Walking or running includes nature which boosts dopamine. Pool swimming is not natural. 2 hours of bush a week improves mood according to studies.

Swimming anywhere is one of the safest all body workouts a person can do, totally natural in movements. Weights are the best way to maintain muscle mass, but injuries happen more using weights, whereas swimming you are suspended by the water, almost impossible to hurt your joints. Bicycling is also a top exercise, although the upper body doesn't get all the benefits weights and swimming do.

Swimming is cardio. Swimming is good, but you also need to walk. Walking has specific health benefits. When your feet touch the ground, it's activating the bones ...

Also, sports like racquet sports might be good because you are keeping the brain activated through coordinated movements and quick reactions and moving your body in unpredictable ways in addition to cardio benefits. I haven't played sports in a long time.

You need some weight resistance in addition to cardio, ideally.

But I stopped going to the gym. Most guys there have had some sort of injury and they appear to be over-training.

Just light weights and bodyweight exercises at home is enough to tone the muscles and burn fat, and risk of injury is negligible. You won't get big, but huge muscles like bodybuilders have is more for vanity. It does not equate to longevity and health anyway.

One of the most important exercises might be bodyweight squats. Work your way up to 100 per day. You can start with 20. Then, you can do 5 sets of 20 throughout the day. Then eventually 100 at a time. If you can do 100 bodyweight squats, you should be able to support yourself and not end up needing assistance when you're older. And you cannot get injured with bodyweight squats.

Try box squats. Basically sit on a chair and stand up 100 times.

You can start with that, but eventually get rid of the chair and squat deeper.

Can you use a squat toilet?

Havent used one in years.

I am beginning to practice staying in the squatting position for 1-2 minutes a day.

But I am holding on the something so not sure how well I can do it with no hands.

Also, balance. We lose our balance as we get older. I may start practicing standing on one leg for 1 minute. Haven't tried it yet.

I can do 1 leg for a few minutes. Leg muscles and back muscles are the largest but shoulders are important too.

Try a squat overhead press with 5kgs in one arm.

I started doing kettlebells in the morning after the arm-swing program and balance board, in addition to cardio and weight training spread out through the week. I must say, kettlebells have a great effect and are part of a good start to the morning now.

With just a few tools, kettlebells and elastics, you can create a great home gym and make life-changing improvements with very little investment.

Following this guy on Facebook, and I'm impressed by what he has slowly built over time. Well done.

Disclaimer, I have no personal interest in his business and I've never been to his facilities. I just find it interesting to see someone build a successful business in Thailand.

A purpose of life as retired ?

Getting my steps in before returning to Thailand and starting to hike some of the famous routes there. I have been consistently hiking with and without weights for the last 3 to 4 weeks, and things are starting to happen. Nothing hard, mostly low to medium intensity, and of course some berry and mushroom picking along the way.

I assume you are doing the farmers walk?

i do them also now and i am using 27.5 kilo in each hand.

That is very close to my body weight and i find this an amazing exercise!

Only takes me 2 minutes per day and i can feel and see the gains.

The best all around exercise there is!

I carry those in a backpack with food, water, and extra clothes, so the total weight varies from 23 to 25 kg. The 8 to 10 km walks we do are a bit too long for a farmer’s walk. ;-)

It made the 800 m elevation feel easy with a 12 kg backpack up the mountain. I also made a new record now at 58, carrying a total weight of 125 kg. When I was in the army, I still had my ski jumper body at 59 kg and carried loads up to 40 kg on my back. Even through all my outdoor sports, I rearly reached more than 100 kg total weight. Still, my goal now is to get back down to 80 kg. We will see, but at least it is a goal I take seriously. Time to retire with less weight than I have now.

Farmer’s walk is great for overall strength and a great basic exercise.
