Sadiq Khan accused of covering up evidence of grooming gangs

Sadiq Khan has been accused of covering up evidence of grooming gangs operating in London after an Express and MyLondon investigation found reports the Mayor personally reviewed describing young girls being raped and drugged by groups of men — despite his public insistence that no such gangs existed in the capital.

The exposé uncovered four His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary reports between 2016 and 2025 that detailed multiple cases of gang-based sexual exploitation, including victims as young as 13, plied with drugs and assaulted in hotel rooms. Khan publicly stated he had read the reports, which also condemned Metropolitan Police failures to protect children.

Whistleblower Maggie Oliver, who exposed the Rochdale scandal, said the cases followed the same pattern: “Everybody at the top knew and wanted to cover it up.” Care professional Chris Wild, who works with London’s vulnerable youth, said such abuse is “happening all over London — so much more than anywhere else in the country.”

Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp MP accused Khan of “facilitating a cover-up,” while Reform UK’s Lee Anderson said the Mayor had “serious questions to answer.” Both warned Britain risked repeating the catastrophic mistakes of Rochdale and Rotherham.

The Express investigation prompted a rare admission from Met Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley, who told the London Assembly there is now a “steady flow” of live multi-offender child sexual exploitation investigations and a “significant number” of past cases being reinvestigated.

One London victim told the paper: “Khan and the Met are gaslighting survivors. For a mayor who claims to champion women’s justice, it’s disgraceful.”

Key Takeaways:

  • Reports reviewed by Khan described gang-based child sexual exploitation.

  • Whistleblowers say London abuse mirrors Rochdale and Rotherham scandals.

  • Met Commissioner now admits multiple ongoing grooming gang investigations.

Initially two victims had withdrawn from the sham inquiry as the scope was being widened beyond the initial scope. Now another two victims have withdrawn following moves to broaden the scope and by definition water down the remit of the initial inquiry. What a farce.
