Dialysis cost, hospital

Featured Replies

I hope Sheryl will share her knowledge on this:

I'm at the point of deciding on hemodialysis as I have reached the end of controlling the decline by diet etc. Unfortunately, I only have inpatient insurance cover & I doubt hemodialysis would come under inpatient.

What is the approx. cost per session & what would be a good place to go? There seems to be a difference in equipment too. Closest hospital would be Medpark in Bangkok. Huachiew seems to offer a very modern center too. Chula may be difficult to access. Tks for any experience you can share.

I know that the Nonthavej hospital offer different kind of hemodialysis machines, even by Fresenius. I'm not familiar with present prices. A friend of mine did it there 2 years ago. I think it was around 5-6k.

Many inpatient only insurance policies do cover outpatient hemodialysis so check your policy.

Roughly, anywhere from 20,000 - 40,000 baht a month depending on the hospital and the number of sessions per week.  Labs and doctor consultations extra.

I suggest you contact the following nonprofit hospitals in Bangkok for a quote as these may cost  a bit less than the for profit private ones:

The first one listed, the  BhumarajaKidney Institute, is under royal patronage and what I would try first as likely the lowest cost, and the whole hospital is purely for kidney disease.  If they do not respond to email (quite possible) have a Thai speaker call them at 02-765-3000.

There are also some stand alone dialysis centers but I can't find an up tp date list. Your nephorologist may know, however. But try the above places first esp. the Kidney Institute.

Tks Sheryl. My doc is at Bumrungrad (your recommendation a while ago). He pointed out that price depends on the system the hospital uses. Yet they all claim to have the latest German system, Fresenius.
