October 24, 2025Oct 24 Popular Post Ontario launches $75 million ad campaign using the words of Ronald Reagan to argue against tariffs.
October 24, 2025Oct 24 Author Popular Post Trump terminates trade talks with Canada over tariffs ad featuring Reagan President Trump said he's ended trade talks with Canada over a TV ad that's running in the province of Ontario, which he claimed "fraudulently" featured the late President Reagan "speaking negatively" about tariffs. The big picture: Trump accused Canadian officials of trying to interfere in a legal challenge to his tariffs that's before the U.S. Supreme Court with the anti-tariffs ad that Reagan's foundation said misrepresented a 1987 address on free trade by the former president. The foundation said it's reviewing its legal options. Driving the news: "They only did this to interfere with the decision of the U.S. Supreme Court, and other courts," Trump claimed on Truth Social, ahead of oral arguments the justices are due to hear early next month in a case challenging his tariffs. "TARIFFS ARE VERY IMPORTANT TO THE NATIONAL SECURITY, AND ECONOMY, OF THE U.S.A. Based on their egregious behavior, ALL TRADE NEGOTIATIONS WITH CANADA ARE HEREBY TERMINATED," he added. What they're saying: A spokesperson for Ontario Premier Doug Ford told CBC News his government hadn't done anything wrong and that the excerpt was unedited. Why it matters: This is what some economists see as a key risk of the Trump 2.0 era: never-ending trade wars, fragile negotiations that Trump could blowing up at any moment — and the economic uncertainty that comes along with both. https://www.axios.com/2025/10/24/trump-us-canada-trade-tariffs-carney-reagan

October 24, 2025Oct 24 Has anyone seen what the administration is spending tariff money on? Has it helped the economy?

Who does it hope to sway or convince? It hopes to educate US voters, predominantly from red states, that the demigod of the Repugnant party, Ronnie Raygun, was not a big supporter of tariffs, as they don't help in many situations, such as the one that both countries are currently facing. Hopefully, some voters will realize that Trump is destroying the US economy and alienating their former ally and trading partner.

How will that influence American voters? It makes no sense. Unless Ford is trying to sabotage Carney before a deal can be finalized. And that would p!ss me off, even though I am a true blue Conservative. Provincial leaders should never backstab the federal government, no matter who is in charge.

So you didn't read the full article (link is given) "The Ontario ad has aired in major markets, including D.C., and during the Toronto Blue Jays’ games. “We’re going to repeat that message to every Republican district there is right across the entire country,” Ford said last week before the ad launched."

You are right, I didn't. Just the blurb in the post. But even so, how doe Ford think this could do anything useful? Somehow bring pressure to bear on The Donald? That usually doesn't end well. And especially, as I said, negotiating deals is a federal responsibility. Ford would be better to take up his concerns with the Prime Minister. But sadly, this kind of gesture type politics is something that he does all too often lately. It is disappointing.

Ah, so the bullying Trump and his admin with the same manners are OK, constantly almost every day. When another country doesen‘t accept it and talks back - thats then dissapointing. Aha. Your compass may need to be readjusted.
October 24, 2025Oct 24 Popular Post So Ontario is feeling the pinch of the tariffs and puts this ad out ?
October 24, 2025Oct 24 Author Popular Post Nobody ever said that Canada and lots of other countries don't "feel the pinch". But as noted in another topic - who needs friends? Trump gets his pockets filled. You seem to like to get ripped off. That's absolutley fine with me.

It is disappointing when a provincial leader oversteps his mandate and pokes his nose into matters that are the bailiwick of the federal government. Especially for no purpose. There is plenty of time to talk back AFTER making a deal.

October 24, 2025Oct 24 I bet that picture of Reagan, which was on the wall behind his desk in the Oval Office, will have been trashed by now
