A 14-year-old school student was found dead in his bedroom in Lampang Province on the morning of 24 October, with authorities suspecting electrocution caused by a damaged power strip. The incident occurred in a residential area of Nikhom Khet 10, Nikhom Phatthana Subdistrict, Mueang District, shocking the local community. Rescue workers, hospital staff and police were called to the scene after the boy’s mother discovered him unresponsive.

Police identified the victim as Pritep, a Mathayom 2 student. His body was found lying in his bedroom, close to several electrical wires and a multi-socket power extension cord. Emergency responders confirmed that he had already died before their arrival. His body was later examined by a duty doctor from Lampang Hospital, who authorised its transfer for further autopsy to confirm the exact cause of death.

According to the preliminary investigation, the boy’s mother had called him several times to get ready for school but received no response. When she entered his room, she found him lying still, his body cold to the touch. She immediately notified local rescue personnel and the Thung Fai Police Station, who are treating the case as a suspected electrical incident, pending autopsy results.

Authorities believe the fatal shock was likely caused by a faulty and damaged electrical device near the bed. Several electrical cords and the power strip showed signs of wear, prompting officials to warn residents about the risks of using old or defective equipment. The investigation is ongoing, with police coordinating with forensic experts to determine whether the electrocution occurred due to the plug, wiring or an exposed electrical source.

The incident highlights ongoing concerns about household electrical safety, especially in older or uninspected installations. Local officials urged families to regularly check power outlets, cables and extension cords for damage and to avoid placing them near sleeping or damp areas. The results of the Lampang Hospital autopsy will guide final conclusions on the cause of death.

  • 2 weeks later...

If only buildings in Thailand had a ground wire attached to all outlets. This death was so easily avoidable 😢

Of course the lack of shoes multiplies OUR risk by a thousand percent!
