Billions Blown On Migrant Hotels Home Office incompetent

The Home Office has “squandered billions” of taxpayers’ money on housing asylum seekers in hotels, according to a damning report by MPs that lays bare staggering levels of waste, chaos and mismanagement at the heart of government.

The Commons Home Affairs Committee accused the department of “manifest failure” in controlling contracts with private companies hired to provide accommodation — allowing them to rake in “excessive profits” from the small boat crisis.

Committee chair Dame Karen Bradley blasted the Home Office for presiding over a “failed, chaotic and expensive system” that has heaped pressure on local communities and fuelled public anger. “Urgent action is needed,” she warned, “to bring costs down and hold providers to account.”

The 2019 asylum contracts — handed to Serco, Mears and Clearsprings — were supposed to cost £4.5 billion over ten years. But the bill has now exploded to £15.3 billion, as tens of thousands of migrants were moved into hotels during the pandemic and have never left.

Taxpayers are footing the eye-watering bill: £145 per person per night for hotel stays compared to just £23 in standard housing. More than 32,000 migrants are currently in hotels, with another 70,000 in other forms of accommodation.

The report condemned the Home Office’s “cut corners and chaotic failures,” revealing one in three local areas were never even consulted before hotels were opened — fuelling public mistrust and overwhelming local services.

“The department is simply not up to the challenge,” the MPs concluded. “It has wasted billions, let private firms profiteer, and failed to plan for the future.”

The Government insists it will close all asylum hotels by 2029, claiming costs have already been slashed by nearly £1 billion. But critics say that’s far too late.

A Serco spokesman admitted hotels should end “as a priority.” Mears and Clearsprings declined to comment.

Key Takeaways:

  • MPs accuse the Home Office of “incompetence” over £15bn migrant hotel costs.

  • Private firms made “excessive profits” as taxpayers foot the bill.

  • The Government pledges to shut all asylum hotels by 2029.

Why didn't the Tories do something about this when they were in power for 14 years?

Because they were too busy giving their buddies government contracts to profit off of the migrant crisis they helped create.

Who handed out these contracts?

I imagine there was a VIP lane that handled it

No wonder they have probably the worst pension payout of all western countries.   A real shame.

No idea, but Labour are just as useless and have done nothing other than releasing sex offenders by mistake.

Starmer promised to smash the gangs, but we have record numbers of arrivals under his watch., even had at least 1 guy turn up twice!!!

That why I would like every person that wants migrants to say so on their tax form

so that those persons can pay for it (and be responsible for any wrong doing of migrants), not the ones

that are against it.

or better yet, dont involve tax at all, those who want can take their money after tax and send it to any cause they feel passionate about

Strange someone would put a thumbs down on my post when I pointed out that hat a sex offender was accidentally released, but hey you would expect that from the left.

They did do something.

They enacted Brexit, which massively increased the number of illegals arriving and, because they could not process them fast enough, they then hugely expanded the hotel accommodation system.

It was the ******* Conservatives and the dozy ***** that voted for them/Brexit that created the situation!

Johnson, Tories and Brexiteers collectively **** all over the UK.

No , it should be mandatory.

You want them ? I fill in the box on your taxes and we'll tax you to pay for those "migrants".

Let's see how many want them then.

No matter how you want to compare it to other countries and their asylum/immigration policies, the UK is the most incompetent and foolish in the world. What a pack of fools, the government and the sheep-like population of natives who just nod and go along, bragging about their tolerance.

Investing this modest amount of money is a powerful step toward enhancing diversity and fostering a more inclusive environment.

They think it makes them virtuous.

Then they sit around dinner tables in Islington and quaff champagne and pat each other on the back while waffling on about "doing the right thing" while the people who elected them suffer.

They are pathetic specimens.

The Tories started the rot and rightly paid the price. Unfortunately, instead of fixing the issues Labour took off their shirt and asked someone to hold their beer, making it much worse in record time. They too will pay. Roll on the next election.

and are these clowns any better?

The only thing starmer is smashing is records on illegal arrivals.

New voters dont come cheap. Labour should be disqualified and disbanded for trying to replace the electorate with barbarians.
