The Highways Department has confirmed the structural integrity of the Rama II elevated motorway following a concrete spill. The incident occurred around 1.55am when wet concrete overflowed from a mould, falling onto the inbound lane of Rama II highway and blocking traffic. The spillage was attributed to human error during casting, rather than any structural issues.

The incident took place during the construction of the Ekkachai–Ban Praew section by the UN-ASI joint venture. Concrete spilled from a mould used for a lower cross beam, leaking onto a protective canvas and then onto the road. Despite the disruption, workers swiftly managed to clear the debris within 30 minutes, reopening the highway lane without any reported injuries or damage.

In response to speculation on social media, the department clarified that the spill was due to a lapse in procedure, not instability of the structure. They also announced measures for increased caution in future operations. The cleanup was expedited with assistance from Samut Sakhon Highway Office officials.

Looking forward, the department pledged to prevent similar issues by implementing stricter quality controls. They emphasized that safety protocols will be enhanced to ensure construction continues smoothly and safely. This incident highlights the importance of vigilant oversight in large infrastructure projects.

Key Takeaways

  • Human error caused a concrete spill on Rama II, not structural flaws.
  • The incident was promptly managed with no injuries or damage reported.
  • Future safeguards are being implemented to prevent recurrences.
