girlx Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 i have posted about this problem before... i have a dog (on koh phangan) which i have raised since a puppy. she is very lovely and well behaved. she sleeps in my house. i have two other dogs as well - i am not worried about them as they were originally street dogs. but this dog ('puppy') does not know how to survive without me. i would like to go travelling in october, for 2 1/2 months (home to NY and then to south america for a bit). this would be from around october 20th through new year. i need someone to watch my dog for me! i am willing to pay! i will also provide all food. if someone wants to stay in my nice house and watch her they can do so for free during that time. or i can bring her to theirs... i have tried putting up flyers to no avail, i have tried asking PAC and they said no, i don't trust the monks at the temples because of past experiences with them, and the people in my village (TNPY) either have too many dogs themselves or are gone during that time as well. if anyone knows anyone with a nice yard and a covered porch area who can puppysit for awhile, please send them to me! thanks for any help...

There are kennels now in samui, but i think both centres charge about 300THB a Day!, otherwise i belive the dog rescue centre can take care while you are away, as long as you pay for the food, and give a donation to help the other dogs and the running of the centre.
girlx Posted August 16, 2007 Author Posted August 16, 2007 really! i will check into the dog rescue center idea- i wonder why PAC wouldn't do the same? i guess they worry about people not coming back!
Samuian Posted August 16, 2007 Posted August 16, 2007 don't hesitate to go to the Samui Dog Rescue Center! 0878958928 just past the DOW Market (Talaad Dow) is a little "Soi" leading straight up to the center! They are nice and genuine people there! If you are somewhat short in money - offer them to help at the center instead of payment/donation, they are looking for volunteers all the time!
girlx Posted August 16, 2007 Author Posted August 16, 2007 thanks again- i would like to find someone in koh phangan to do it but if all else fails i will try samui.
BL4u Posted August 16, 2007 Posted August 16, 2007 Dog rescue samui is not really a place to bring your dog. Only as a last resort. They have too many dogs already and your dog will probably stay in the Baan Taling Nam centre, not Chaweng. The dog rescue couple live in the Chaweng place with many dogs, of which most are in transit to europe. Baan Taling Naam is for long stayers, street dogs, and the end for most of these dogs. You do not want to bring your dog over there.
Samuian Posted August 16, 2007 Posted August 16, 2007 ... and the end for most of these dogs. You do not want to bring your dog over there. Sorry, what do you intend to imply with this line (underlined)? the Center is a well established and widely recognized DOG CARE CENTER! And they do take in day care animals! I had my dogs with them for over a week - NO problem! They been taken care of very well...

It's A dog rescue for street dogs, last resort, taking care of sick dogs etc. I sponsor them. NOT a dog care centre if you go on holiday back home. If you want a care centre go to the dog father and pay 300+ baht a day. That you even suggest to a KP resident to bring his dog to the Dog rescue Samui, if they do not have enough dogs and work already.
Samuian Posted August 16, 2007 Posted August 16, 2007 "If you are somewhat short in money - offer them to help at the center instead of payment/donation, they are looking for volunteers all the time!" Didn't read my initial post - did you? Why not to suggest the Dog Rescue Center to a KPG Resident, they may come/go via samui any way?
BL4u Posted August 16, 2007 Posted August 16, 2007 You are probably a nice guy Samuian and meant well, but the dog resue is not offering day care services for dogs of residents on the island. You should not suggest to bring your dog over there if you go on holiday.
Ijustwannateach Posted August 16, 2007 Posted August 16, 2007 Please disagree with each other without flaming. "Steven"
girlx Posted August 16, 2007 Author Posted August 16, 2007 To be honest given my experiences with the Phangan Animal Care place, they probably wouldn't have time to take care of my dog, and I wouldn't really want to leave her exposed to so many other sick dogs. I would prefer to have some nice lady stay in my house (it has cable tv, internet, etc.) and watch my dog there while I am gone... or I would like to leave her in a place nearby with a garden and a family or something. I have 2 months to find someone so hopefully, especially given the fact that I will pay for it, that should be sufficient time! Let me know if you know of anyone though.
