Time for the licence fee to be scrapped. Those who don't need the BBC should not be forced to pay for something they don't want.

I suppose you believe the trash that Fox News throws up every day.

Typical response as from a ABC/BBC tragic. Condone biased reporting because others do, right?

Two things wrong with this reasoning:

1. If you are truly inquisitive there are myriad of media out there to research, try Al-Monitor for the Middle East which is highly regarded for its objectivity. So many media, you can start with basic search and seek Objectivity, or as close as you can get it these days. But the ABC and BBC gave been shocking over the years and getting worse.

2. Fox is not government funded. People choose to fund it.
ABC/BBC have an obligation to society to try harder to be news, not views orientated. They've become left wing propaganda outlets when not covering sports or regional news.

The full text of Trump urging his supporters on Jan 6 to "fight like hell. And if you don't fight like hell, you're not going to have a country anymore' was damning. Dont understand the need to edit. Clearly show that he was complicit to the insurrection.

Another guy being persecuted for just speaking the truth. Trump did incite the riots, he said many things to encourage extremists to participate, and to this day refuses to acknowledge the election loss. What's really important here is to acknowledge what a spectacular loser Trump is, and how the aversion to truth is becoming the norm under his reign.

Trump is right again!!!

The irony: Trump condemns "foreign" media bias while fact-checkers  have documented over 30,000 false claims during his first term, including January 6 distortions, and his administration promotes unverified or provocative content like the AI video of him crapping from a jet fighter over the US public. Supporters counter that the BBC's edit was deliberate deception warranting the rebuke, a one off in hundreds of thousands of news stories. It's classic "pot calling the kettle black" dynamic in polarized media wars that Trump and the far right activists thrives off of. Sensible people see this for what it is.

Tim Davie has stepped down as director general of the BBC, with Deborah Turness, head of News, following suit. The resignations come amid fallout from a Panorama documentary, which edited a speech by US President Donald Trump. Critics argue the edits misled viewers by making Trump appear to endorse the Capitol Hill riots.

The uproar began when The Telegraph published an internal BBC memo revealing Panorama stitched together parts of Trump’s 6 January 2021 speech. Despite spreading the original speech over 50 minutes, the documentary gave the impression that Trump was urging his supporters to fight. This led to backlash, with even the White House slamming the edit as propaganda.

As the controversy mounted, BBC chairman Samir Shah expressed sadness over Davie's departure and commended his leadership. He acknowledged the personal and professional pressure on Davie, which led to his decision. Turness, who leaves after three years as CEO of News, admitted the incident damaged the BBC, prompting her resignation.

A parliamentary committee will receive a statement from Shah, who plans to publicly apologise for the documentary’s edit. The BBC is also grappling with criticisms over impartiality in various areas, including the Israel-Gaza conflict and trans issues. This includes recent upheld complaints about bias in coverage.

Amid these challenges, Davie, a 20-year veteran of the BBC, highlighted the corporation’s strong journalism and quality content. His departure allows for a transition to a new leader, providing an opportunity to mould the BBC’s future ahead of the next Royal Charter in 2027. This Charter outlines the BBC's funding and regulatory framework.

Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy praised Davie’s service during a period of significant change and stressed the importance of trusted news. She assured that the upcoming Charter review would help the BBC adapt to modern challenges. Meanwhile, political reactions varied, with some viewing the resignations as a chance for reform within the broadcaster.

Key Takeaways

  • Tim Davie and Deborah Turness resign amid documentary scandal.
  • BBC Panorama edited Trump’s speech, implying support for riots.
  • Internal and external pressure prompts leadership changes.

I just don't understand the fuss about the edit..... Did they cut dialogue that was just repetitive in its support for the riot? If so, that's what editing is all about -- eliminating unnecessary repetition. And they certainly didn't cut any dialogue or facts that indicated that he DIDN'T support the riot -- because there wasn't any such dialogue or facts. This sore loser just sat for hours, watching the riot unfold on TV -- waiting for Pence to embrace this lunacy.

So, someone please indicate how the edited version's facts and conclusions somehow didn't reflect those obtained from the full-blown dialogue....

Devastating. This editted speech was the cornerstone of the lefts J6 narrative that Trump icited insurrection and kicked off no end of bs. How embarrassing to see another key lefty narrative implode like Stockton Rush's sub.

So much gaslighting on just this BBC article when the seeds of the Jan 6 insurrection were already sowed by Trump.

When he denied the election results & subsequently filed 62 lawsuits and launched his own election certification audits in 9 states, he instigated the insurrection. If it was another country, that will be enough to haul him to court for attempted coup.

All the lawsuits were dismissed or dropped for lack of evidence or standing. The election process audits turned out to be just a waste of time with nothing proven.

Trump is celebrating the resignation of the executives and a pyrrhic victory.

Why do people think the BBC is left-wing?

Yes, let's not forget that Davie is a conservative who once stood for election as a Tory MP. He was appointed to the BBC as it was seen to be too left leaning in editorial content.

The BBC, is just a shadow of it's former self.

Time has moved on, and the BBC, needs to go now.

Thanks for all the great shows, but time, to turn the lights off and close the door.

Agreed. It's just laughable to call the BBC left-wing, and any detailed analysis of its thousands of hours of output would testify to this. It's easy to cherry-pick examples from this vast output. Indeed, those on the genuine left -wing regularly complain that their views are under-represented compared to those of the right and center of politics, on the BBC. An apology should have sufficed as resignations were not necessary. It sets a bad example to be kowtowing to Trump, in what is clearly a witch hunt. Trump clearly instigated a violent insurrection, and it is a huge failure of American democracy that he was not held to account for his actions, let alone be allowed to run again for the highest office. The fact that he threatened to sue the BBC speaks volumes about him. The truth evidently hurts.

Not sorry to see Davie go.  Hopefully the next DG won't be a Tory!

Not a chance. The short list of three candidates to replace him (coincidentally all women) come from either the BBC or Channel 4, which is even more woke than the BBC.

The claim of irony falls flat when you look at the facts of this specific incident. The BBC's editing of Trump's January 6, 2021, speech in a Panorama documentary ("Trump: A Second Chance?") was not a minor slip or standard journalistic practice—it was a deliberate splice of clips from nearly an hour apart, making it appear Trump directly urged violence by saying "we're going to walk down to the Capitol" immediately followed by "fight like hell," while omitting his explicit call to "peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard."

Dismissing this as "a one-off in hundreds of thousands of news stories" ignores the context: the documentary aired just a week before the 2024 U.S. election, amplifying a narrative that Trump incited violence without the full context.

Critics, including UK MPs and former BBC insiders, described it as systemic bias, not an isolated error. When top executives resign over a single story, it's hardly trivial—it's accountability that rarely happens in media scandals.

Trump’s 30,000+ false claims are real and well-documented. But equating a politician’s rally exaggerations to a state media outlet fabricating evidence is false equivalence on steroids.

The AI poop-jet video? Crude meme posted on Truth Social, watermarked satire—not “administration policy."

Calling out proven BBC fraud isn’t hypocrisy; it’s accountability. Pot, meet kettle? No—the kettle just exploded and took two executives with it.

So while Labour sent volunteers to campaign for Harris, it's state funded propaganda wing was back at home busily splicing together clips of Trump to make it look like he was inciting a riot.

Phew, thankfully the far right gammon can glean some comfort from this after the disastrous week they’ve had with the various elections in US that proved the electorate has quickly sussed out the grifting of the Trump family.

Those critics of the BBC might need to calm down and, in the interest of balance, admit that they (BBC) afford infinitely more airtime to the far right absentee Member for Clacton than Ed Davey who leads a party which has 14 times as many MPs as Deform.

Please tell me that far right morons aren’t going to use this small BBC detail as evidence that Trump had nowt to do with J6 insurrection.

Nothing at this point will save the BBC even if they were to renounce their left wing, corrupt news ways. There will never be any credibility no matter who is in control.

I grabbed the popcorn and settled in when this news broke... little bit awkward for the lefties and leaves them in a bit of a "told you so" pickle in the eyes of the public.

The BBC is a joke compared to what its mission statement is and even has that Orwell statue and quote outside it's doors, and they basically do the opposite. Sadly, the rot has gone too far at the BBC (much further than these two) and goes much deeper into the rank and file at the corporation (the cleaners are probably rabid far-lefties too), and many more need to be cleared out and fired, so that it even has the slightest chance of returning to what it should be.

Currently, the BBC is more biased and agenda driven than the Kremlin spokesman Peskov.

“Peacefully and patriotically” urged multiple times.

“Fight like hell” = political rhetoric, 53 min later.

BBC Panorama spliced clips → misleading.

No explicit riot call.

Edit unnecessary; full context shows no complicity.

Trump about to Make the bbc Great Again. He just can't help sprinkling Greatness like fairy dust wherever he goes. What a guy!

BBC now forever exposed a lefty fake news and a non credible source. Just a bit surprised at the saltiness from the left. I suppose it causes angst having everything you "know" exposed as bs.
