Hot Dip Plastic For Tool Handles

Featured Replies

I make bamboo drumsticks and want to get a slick plasticized cover on a part of them.

Am somewhat handy, but have no experience working with plastics. A durable rubberized type would be best.

I also know plastic is environmentally cr*p, but my product is at the stage where such is needed. We currently bind the sticks tightly with poly string and that works well, but a smooth finish is preferable.

any tips appreciated.

Just an idea. Electricians use heat shrink plastic. It comes in a variety of colours and sizes in lengths or rolls. It's plastic tubing that shrinks to size when heated with a hair dryers or similar air heater. Maybe someone has seen it for sale in Thailand.

We use quite a bit of heat shrink tubing at the lab so might work. Believe you can get heat shrink tape also which would accommodate larger pieces.

I had thought of 'shrink wrap' plastic using heat - but forgot to mention it in my OP.

Great reminder! Now I'll have to source it. A couple times I've searched for shrink wrap plastic tubes in Thai hardware stores when I needed it for underwater electrical connections - when putting in submersible pumps here - though I never found it. Due diligence to the fore..... any tips for sourcing it are appreciated.

If down Chiangmai way I believe Kitti electronics (Chotana Road) and/or Amorn Electronics should have it.

The electronics store in Chiangrai (fairly near the bus depot) has shrink wrap but I don't know if they have it in large enough diameter....maybe, but can't remember.

Can get it up form Singapore, any diameter, if you want.

The easiest way to do this is using a rope end solution.

If you look on any major boating site you will see a product that puts a plastic coating on the end of a rope - One that come to mind is a product called "dip it"

You can order these delivered in thailand. these will all do the plastic process covering without heat.

the shrink type electrical covering is available in any good electrical supply shop and even at most thai markets
