Three wild elephants died after being electrocuted in a fruit orchard in Khao Khitchakut, Chanthaburi, prompting urgent investigations and legal action. The incident has raised concerns among local authorities and communities about elephant safety and illegal electricity hazards.

The first case occurred on the night of 11 November at around 22:30 when a rapid-response elephant monitoring team received a report from the village headman of Moo 9, Ban Khlong Ta In, Khlong Phlu Subdistrict. The elephant, a male named “Phlai Muan,” aged about 30 years and weighing approximately 5–6 tonnes, was found dead, believed to have suffered a severe electric shock.

The second incident was reported the following morning, 12 November, at 06:30, when two more elephants were discovered about 100 metres from the first location. Preliminary findings suggest the same cause, with authorities currently conducting a detailed investigation into the incidents.

Officials, including Chawin Pinkaew, Head of Khao Khitchakut National Park, visited the site alongside rapid-response officers and village headman Bamrung Chomchalao to collect data and survey the surrounding area. The Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation dispatched three veterinarians and approximately ten personnel to perform post-mortems on all three elephants to determine the official cause of death.

Authorities have also coordinated with Khao Soi Dao Wildlife Sanctuary to file a police report and initiate legal proceedings against the landowner responsible for the orchard. Park officials have instructed rapid-response teams and local volunteers to increase monitoring of remaining wild elephants in the vicinity to prevent further incidents.

Do they not have voltage wires (batteries, limiter etc) that just shock not kill (like other countries) or do they just wire to the "grid" & just see? Interested to know how much electricity watts / volts to kill an elephant & what if a kid touched it!!!

Outrage I'm guessing but it's Thailand

RIP elephants 🐘

Aaah, that‘s the reason Thailand wants to repatriate 2 elefants from Sri Lanka which were once given to them  as gifts. On second thoughts, they might be better of in Sri Lanka.
