The body of Matthias Beutin, a 57-year-old German walker missing for over five weeks, has been discovered on the Isle of Skye. Scotland police located him near Coire Dubh, Blaven, at about 14:15 on Saturday. Authorities state the death is unexplained but not deemed suspicious.

Beutin disappeared on 9 October after last being seen at Blaven car park, Loch Slapin, before attempting to climb Blà Bheinn. He was visiting Scotland on holiday with his wife but ventured out alone for the walk and didn’t return. Skye Mountain Rescue noted he was found outside the initial search area, aided by mobile phone data analysis.

Several search teams participated, including Skye, Kintail, and Glen Elg Mountain Rescues; Police Scotland Mountain Rescue; two rescue helicopters; and the Search and Rescue Dog Association. James Stephenson, Skye Mountain Rescue's deputy leader, expressed frustration at the challenging search conditions, emphasising the difficult terrain and weather. Helicopters and drones were limited by the environment, but a break in the weather on Saturday allowed the team to continue efforts, reported the BBC.

Stephenson extended condolences to Beutin’s family, acknowledging how difficult the search period must have been for them. The discovery brings some closure, allowing the family to start mourning. The location, Blà Bheinn, is a well-known Munro in a remote Skye area, far from immediate assistance and adding complexities to the search.

Key Takeaways

  • The body of missing German walker Matthias Beutin was found on Skye.
  • The search faced challenges due to difficult terrain and adverse weather.
  • The discovery allows Beutin's family to begin the grieving process.

Wandered around lost in the mist for days and died of exposure?

Or fell off a cliff and died instantly?

Or died of a heart attack?

Would it really have hurt them to provide a few details?

They've already said not suspicious.

The isle is as big as a Melbourne suburb and they still couldn't find him

Melbourne suburbs are not built on Mt Buffalo tho!

I have never seen a forensic report on all of these deaths', though I may have missed one
