Tens of millions of visitors per year, none paying for the city’s infrastructure and services they use.

It’s entirely reasonable to require them to make a tax contribution.

Apart from Pavements , what infrastructure do they use for free ?

Don't worry, it's not remotely true.  London remains one of the world's greatest cities to visit.

  • Having bled every last penny from the (working, law abiding) residents of London this parasite needs a new organism from which to leech.    So now, not only do tourists to London need a stab

  • Good to see London taking its ideas from Thailand...  😹

The world urgently needs to embrace higher taxes as governments struggle with dwindling revenues. It is time to advocate for a global tax that can ensure fair funding for essential services and support sustainable development across nations.

Or maybe they could just stop wasting money on diversity hires, foreigners and scroungers. Both at home and abroad.

Net zero

Foreign aid

Charities for foreigners and their countries

Armed forces

The list is endless ..........

Lived there a number of years but the writing was on the wall. I saw it earlier than most.

My lib mates lasted a decade longer before moving to the shires due to violent incidents against them in fashionable postcodes.

Best you stick to cycling around Rayong. Places like London are no place for nostalgic white Liberal pensioners.

Thanks for the advice.  I wouldn't dare cycle in Rayong or anywhere in Thailand!  But my 10-year-old son and I had a great time in London in April and will be back soon.

So now, not only do tourists to London need a stab vest but they need to pay a tourist tax. 😀

What about all the PhD's and brain surgeons and rocket scientists that have successfully crossed the channel by rubber dinghy?

Haven't the taxes on their 6-figure salaries already paid off the debt and led to a budget surplus?

My daughter and her boyfriend went there for two nights last week. No issues at all.

Yes that was always the counter argument. Shut up and put up with it for the sake of GDP. Yet the economy is now in the toilet and we have a housing crisis, schooling crisis and NHS crisis due to all the extra population.

Not to mention hotels full of illegal immigrants who leave not to work, but increasingly to sexually assault children.

Can't wait for the budget later today where we all get to see the fruits of the cultural enrichers in the form of massive tax cuts 😄.

Or so you tell us.

Yes Jonny, we are discussing tourists, not your pathological ‘illegal immigrant’ fixation.

Transport, power distribution, water supply, refuse disposal, street lighting etc etc etc.

Sounded like you were describing the illegal immigrants and their free hotels.

Although in fairness we probably haven't reached tens of millions yet despite Keir's best efforts.

Then you won't have an issue paying $100. fee for US National Parks.

At least they pay for their hotels and food, unlike the dinghy divers.

Less rapey as well.

They pay for all of those either directly or indirectly through their hotel bills .

Transport is paid for directly and the rest is paid for  in their accommodations various taxes , so, they will be paying taxes twice , once through their accommodation and then directly

Like I say, your fixation on ‘illegal inmigrants’ is pathological, almost ant thing triggered you into an ‘illegal immigrant’ rant.

If I visit a national park I pay the fee charged.

Have I complained about National park fees?

Perhaps you should be more clear, because your post seemed to be describing the cultural enrichers perfectly.

How was I to know you were describing money spending, law abiding tourists?

No they don’t.

If you have a hotel bill which lists tax for local services and infrastructure please let’s see it.

Of course you pay the fee charged. Same as everyone.

It seems that way to you Jonny because you’re triggered.

Very much a pathological fixation.

The topic of the thread is a tourist tax, those of us who are not pathologically fixated on ‘illegal immigrants’ are not triggered in the manner you clearly are.

Indeed.

Now all you need is evidence of me complaining about it.

   Doesnt work like that .

Hotels pay their tax bills separately .

The tax bills are added to the room costs .

Paying tax twice or even 3 times is quite normal in the UK.

Take for example someone on the higher tax rate. They earn 100 pounds. Government takes 45% leaving you 55 quid.

Put that 55 quid in your car in the form of petrol. About 20% of that is VAT and 45% is Fuel tax. So that's another 35 quid in tax (approx).

Meaning of the 100 quid you earned the government took 80 quid and left you 20. It's criminal. And you don't even have to be wealthy to be on the top tax rate.

Still, someone has to pay for the cultural enrichers.

Yes ‘Hotels pay their tax bills’

The tourist tax is a tax bill to the visitor.

Hotels pay their water rates .

The water rate cost is included  to the hotel bill .

So, tourists will now be paying twice

It all goes into the same pot.

No it doesn’t Jonny.

The proposed tourist tax is a tax paid to the City of London (or other cities that adopt it) not to the Exchequer.

You understand the difference?

There is no difference.

If I buy something from you, do I care which pocket you put it in?
