A Chinese national has been arrested on Koh Phangan after allegedly paying 20,000 baht to a Cambodian smuggler to help him enter Thailand illegally and selling drugs to tourists. The operation was carried out on 23 November after Tourist Police Commissioner Pol Lt Gen Sakda Sirah Phuekan ordered coordinated action with Koh Pha Ngan Police, immigration officers and district officials. Officers detained Yunlong Pu, 40, at a house in Moo 1, Ban Tai, where they seized psilocybin (magic) mushrooms weighing 285.2 grams, 96 ecstasy pills and drug-taking equipment.

Police had received intelligence indicating that a Chinese man had illegally entered Thailand and was secretly selling drugs to tourists. Surveillance showed a steady flow of foreigners entering and leaving the property, prompting officers to move in for an inspection. Upon seeing police, Pu attempted to escape on foot but was quickly apprehended by the arresting team.

During questioning, Pu admitted he had illegally crossed into Thailand by paying 20,000 baht to an unidentified Cambodian man who assisted him at the border. He confessed to ordering all the drugs from a Russian man via the TELEGRAM application, purchasing them in bulk for resale to tourists in Koh Pha Ngan district. Officers confirmed that Pu had been staying at the rented house while conducting his drug distribution activities.

Pol Lt Gen Sakda Sirah Phuekan instructed tourist police station chiefs in key tourism zones to intensify crackdowns on foreign offenders who enter Thailand to commit crimes. He emphasised strict and consistent enforcement against all violations to maintain safety and confidence during the high season. Authorities say they will continue monitoring foreign networks involved in drug trafficking and immigration offences across tourism hotspots.

Daily News reported that police have taken Pu into custody for further legal proceedings and are examining the seized drugs and communication records for links to wider trafficking operations. Investigators will also attempt to identify the Cambodian smuggler and the Russian supplier mentioned in Pu’s testimony.
