Thaksin Shinawatra's family visited him in prison in a rare and intimate encounter. This marks one of the few occasions since the Supreme Court ordered him back to jail on 9 September, following his release on parole last year. Originally moved from Bangkok Remand Prison to Klong Prem Central Prison, Thaksin's visit lasted the allowed two hours and took place at a time designated for special family gatherings.

The Corrections Department often allows such visits three to four times a year, coinciding with festivals like New Year and Songkran. Unlike the typical communication via glass panels and phones, this recent visit offered a meaningful opportunity for family interactions. During the visit, Thaksin's daughter, Paetongtarn, shared a touching Instagram post, capturing their experience together.

In her post, Paetongtarn 'Ung Ing' Shinawatra described walking through a small market within the prison, hand in hand with her father, reminiscent of her childhood visits to fresh markets. “The prison organised a family visit, allowing relatives to meet, hug, and eat together,” she stated. This occasion not only brought the family together but also allowed them to support inmate vendors who sell handmade artefacts, according to Naewna.

Looks lovely. Are all Thai prisoners afforded family visits such as this?

Probably not. Do you want to start a campaign for better prisoners rights?

And here I thought Thai prisons were harsh conditions. The surrounding area looked really pretty. Unlike the prisons in the USA. They even have a small market?

How can it be this is actually prison? I have read many stories of how the conditions were horrid in Thai prison. Seems Thaksin got sent to the best of the best.

Desperately trying to keep him in people's minds.

Maybe they could keep all the family in there locked up... ?

Some enjoy torturing old people, how about hurting small animals.

Thought they wore orange?

In CM all orange.

The poor mites. The sheer indignity of it all.

I agree this photo looks off..Like its a cut and paste job and not even a very good one at that....What camera was used?....A 1973 Kodak with roll film.....I think the only day Tony will really set foot in prison is the day he gets out.

unless that is a photo background they stood in front of.

If you look in the background, there are people standing at the waterline overlooking it. Not one person wearing blue prison uniforms is with them. What prison allows non-prisoners to walk around inside the facility this way?

It appears he gets preferential treatment all the family allowed to visit  him no 10 minute time standing talking between a glass mirror just shows how corrupt the system is normal prisoners are separated between a glass partition one visitor at a time

It’s certainly not Koh Samui prison I’ve been there visiting. I used to take books there for foreign prisoners havnt been there for a number of years but I doubt the conditions have changed ! Tony seems to get preferential treatment !!!!

Agree.

Looks like they are standing in front of some kind of printed background from the 80's. Looks like Lumphini or something like that.

looks like a family holiday photo

I bet there is not a single Thai prison photo on the entire internet that looks remotely like this one....

Long gone the time when he used to fly a Thai

barber to the UK because " he couldn't find

anyone there to cut his hair properly!

I guess they allow them also to die his hair black that’s good TIT

Agree. A bit much. He’s a scallywag but is still their dad at that end of the day.

The nice surroundings and everyone smiling thing is probably more for international consumption to show the world how good and humane Thai prisons actually are. 🤔

happy familys Rouge's gallery

I can think of others that deserve prison more than Thaksin but thats another story, he got on the wrong side of the ruling elite and has to pay the price. Nice to see the family supporting their Dad!!
