Thailand's Meteorological Department (TMD) has issued a warning for cold weather due to Typhoon Koto's impact, expected to affect northern regions from November 28-30, 2025. On November 28, Typhoon Koto weakened into a tropical storm over the South China Sea, with winds at 110 km/h, moving west-southwest. A cold air mass from China is advancing southward, affecting Vietnam but not directly impacting Thailand.

From November 28, upper Thailand will experience a temperature drop and strong winds. The Northeast will see slightly cooler conditions, and temperatures will decrease by 1-2°C in the North, Central, and areas including Bangkok. The chill will extend across higher altitudes, with frost likely as temperatures range from 1-8°C on mountain peaks.

The cold weather combined with strong winds raises wildfire risks due to dry conditions. Residents in upper Thailand and Southern regions are urged to protect their health and stay alert for fire hazards. Farmers should be wary of crop damage. Meanwhile, the Gulf of Thailand and Andaman Sea will face moderate wave activity at about 2 meters, with storm-prone areas experiencing higher waves.

The Northeast Monsoon will bring moderate winds to the Gulf and Southern Thailand. Boat operators should exercise caution and avoid stormy regions. The public is encouraged to stay informed with updates from the TMD available online or via their hotline, reported The Nation.

Key Takeaways

  • Typhoon Koto brings colder temperatures to upper Thailand from Nov 28-30.
  • High-risk wildfire conditions due to dry weather and strong winds.
  • Moderate waves expected; boat operators advised to take precautions.
