Thaksin’s Son-In-Law Among Likely Pheu Thai PM Candidates

Nattapong Kunakornwong, son-in-law of de facto Pheu Thai boss and inmate Thaksin Shinawatra, is expected to be named among three Pheu Thai candidates for prime minister, according to a partisan source. His potential nomination signals a strategic move by the party as it prepares for a nationwide election anticipated as early as February. The development comes as Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul is widely expected to dissolve the House of Representatives next month to avoid a censure debate from the opposition bloc.

Nattapong, who is married to Thaksin’s daughter Pintongta Shinawatra, is speculated to run alongside former transport minister Suriya Juangroongruangkit, currently serving as Pheu Thai’s electoral campaign director and a third nominee from the same political camp. The finalisation of Suriya’s candidacy will depend on the decision of former public health minister Somsak Thepsuthin, an influential figure within the party. Both Suriya and Somsak are prominent leaders of the Sam Mit Group, a faction within Pheu Thai now sitting in opposition.

The party is also considering naming Pheu Thai leader Julapun Amornvivat as another candidate for prime minister. This potential move would mark a departure from recent elections in which Pheu Thai leaders were not included as prime ministerial contenders. In the 2023 election, Thaksin’s other daughter and former prime minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra was among the party’s three PM candidates before she became party leader.

The broader political landscape is already taking shape ahead of the expected election. The Bhumjaithai Party, a core partner in the current coalition government, has confirmed three prime ministerial candidates: Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Ekniti Nitithanprapat, Commerce Minister Supajee Suthumpun, and Anutin. Meanwhile, the People’s Party, the largest opposition group, has put forward its leader Nattapong Ruengpanyawut, along with Sirikanya Tansakun and Veerayooth Kanchoochat.

The Thainews Room reported that as campaigning intensifies, the neo-conservative Pheu Thai, ultra-conservative Bhumjaithai under de facto leader Newin Chidchob, reformist People’s Party, and ultra-conservative Klatham Party led by Deputy Prime Minister and Agriculture Minister Thammanat Prompao are expected to secure a significant share of the 400 constituency MP seats and 100 party-list seats. The formal announcement of Pheu Thai’s three prime ministerial candidates is still pending and will shape the party’s strategy in the upcoming election cycle. The timing of the House dissolution will determine when the election is officially scheduled and how parties will position themselves in the race for government leadership.

Key Takeaways

• Nattapong Kunakornwong is expected to be named among Pheu Thai’s trio of prime ministerial candidates.

• Final candidate selections hinge on internal decisions involving key party figures, including Suriya Juangroongruangkit and Somsak Thepsuthin.

• Major parties, including Bhumjaithai and the People’s Party, have already confirmed their prime ministerial candidates ahead of the anticipated early 2025 election.

IF this guy becomes the PM. Thaksin may be able to escape paying all the billions in tax money he owes that he has been ordered to pay.

Even back in 1929 there was good advice in a song:- "Shut the door, theyre coming through the windows".

God/Buddha please forbid it......

For a large majority of Thai's, Thai Buddhism is about as close to the real thing as Christianity is to paganism.

It isn't the incompetent family it is the guy telling them what to do.

The question is when will the people tht vote for him realize that PT is dying.

If he is nominated then everyone will know that tony is stillin charge.  Not a good look.

Also remember the one thing he has not been charged with yet is running th party which he is not allowed to do.

another Thaksin nominee as his "puppet"  not one of his six nomlnees including family members has lasted a full term.

Thaksin needs a nominee in parliment to help mitigate the charges mountting against him.

The Shins time in government is coming to an end the sooner the better

Thaksin’s Son-In-Law Among Likely Pheu Thai PM Candidates,

An other recruited puppet on the family show.

Next one, please....

They are queuing up at that family's house.

I keep meaning to ask the wife what she thinks of this, She's not Taxin biggest fan,

That completely ridiculous family has got to somehow realize that they are way past the sell-by date, their legacy has expired, their popularity is gone, their support base has dwindled, and nobody wants to see them around anymore.

They're toxic, they're corrupt, they do not have the people's interests at heart, and even my friends in Issan who used to love them have abandoned them and consider them to be a very fraudulent political dynasty, who thankfully are in the rear view now.

Next, third cousins, uncles, brothers, son being promoted to take top puppet position.  If the smile and promise of good times ahead don't convince you, maybe the resume of alleged No former government experience, a bachelor's in Architecture but CEO of SC Asset Corporation a Real Estate firm will convince you of his qualifications.
