A 22-year-old man in Samut Prakan is in critical condition after a suspected cobra bit him on the leg while he was sleeping in an extremely cluttered and poorly lit makeshift shelter. Emergency responders were called to the structure behind Soi Rewat 13 in Bang Mueang Mai on 3 December, finding the victim semi-conscious, cold to the touch, sweating heavily and struggling to breathe. He was rushed to Samut Prakan Hospital as his condition was described as life-threatening.

The incident occurred in a self-built dwelling filled with scattered belongings, with inadequate lighting and dense overgrown grass behind the shelter. The victim, referred to only as Mr A, was found lying on his back with two puncture wounds on his left shin, believed to be from a cobra and a tourniquet tied above the bite. His sister said he had been sleeping inside while she briefly stepped outside, only to return and discover he had already been bitten.

Residents described the area as one where cobras are frequently seen. A shop owner nearby said a cobra had entered her store the previous day, adding that the victim often slept directly on the floor without a bed. She recalled seeing him dazed shortly after the bite and noted that, because the snake was not seen, the species could not be confirmed, though his symptoms suggested a venomous snake.

Emergency crews responded rapidly after the sister called for help. The man was transported for antivenom treatment as doctors worked to stabilise him. Authorities noted that the unclean living environment, combined with overgrown vegetation around the shelter, likely contributed to the presence of venomous snakes.

Daily News reported that health officials are expected to monitor the victim closely in the coming days as his condition remains serious. Local residents say they hope the incident prompts more attention to hazardous living conditions and the prevalence of snakes in the area.

Pretty easy to get snakebit even in the city. Happened to me...on Silom Road!

Please don't kill the snakes. Call police to have them relocated.
