A 20-year-old university student was rescued by Bang Phli police after being deceived by a call centre scam. The scammers convinced the student he was involved in money laundering, leading him to transfer funds and isolate himself to stage a fake arrest. This incident was reported on December 3rd after the student's mother filed a missing person complaint.

The student's mother informed police when she couldn't contact her son after he left their home in Samut Prakan. She discovered a note on his desk, hinting at a money laundering investigation. Concerned for his safety, police initiated an urgent investigation using phone data from the mother, locating him at a Bang Chalong apartment. The student was found safe and later reunited with his mother.

The student recounted receiving a call from someone posing as a DSI official, falsely linking his account to illegal activities. Persuaded he needed to prove his innocence, he transferred 181,204.72 baht. The scammers then directed him to hide in a rented room and request more money from his family under false pretenses. Police intervened before further losses occurred.

Authorities are pursuing the perpetrators of the scam. Police Colonel Pairoj Phetphloy highlighted that criminals often impersonate officials to extort victims, using falsified documents. The case underscores the need for vigilance against such scams, which exploit fear of legal troubles.

Moving forward, police are working to identify and apprehend those responsible. The incident serves as a cautionary tale, emphasizing the importance of verifying any suspicious claims of legal issues, reported The Thaiger.
