Five soldiers were injured in Pattani on 6 December 2025 after a flagpole they were helping to repaint accidentally struck a high-voltage power line, causing an electric shock that left one of the men unconscious. The incident occurred at 17.00 at the Sadowa Subdistrict Health Promoting Hospital in Yarang District, where the troops from the 2nd Platoon, 1st Infantry Company had been assisting staff with maintenance work. All five soldiers suffered lower-body numbness and four sustained burn injuries.

Initial inquiries found that the incident happened while the team was lifting the flagpole back into place after repainting it. The pole reportedly tipped into an overhead high-voltage cable, triggering an immediate electrical discharge. Emergency responders provided first aid before sending the injured soldiers to Yarang Community Hospital, where their conditions were closely monitored.

Following the incident, relevant agencies began examining the circumstances to determine whether safety procedures were followed. Officials stated that more details would be released once the review was complete. Concerns were raised about the risks of working near damaged or exposed power lines, especially in areas recently affected by flooding.

Senior Army leaders issued further updates on 7 December, confirming that the injured personnel were part of flood-recovery operations at the same facility. The Army identified the injured as Lt Aneka Siangsomjai, Cpl Somkiat Chatri, Pvt Je-Ismaae Sadi, Pvt Weerachai Bakorsong and Pvt Sannan Sae-Ngo, noting symptoms ranging from full-body numbness to burns on the feet, hands and head and in one case elevated muscle enzyme levels requiring monitoring for potential kidney failure. All five were declared safe, but remained under medical supervision at Pattani Hospital.

Maj Gen Winthai Suwaree, Army spokesperson, said Army Commander-in-Chief Gen Phana Klaoplodtook had instructed the 4th Army Region and local units to support the injured soldiers and their families. He emphasised that they would receive full welfare entitlements and coordinated medical care. The commander also stressed the need for strict safety measures during post-flood operations, urging soldiers to use protective equipment and exercise caution around electrical hazards.

SiamRath reported that authorities will continue monitoring the soldiers’ recovery while assessing safety protocols for future community-support missions. Additional reviews may lead to revised guidelines to reduce risks during restoration work in disaster-affected areas.
